My questions is about 2 angels in a 125, 6'X18"X24". I am looking to get 2 young angels for this tank. Is there any that would do better together than others? Please share your successes/failures so I do not have 2 fighting fish. My wish list includes the following.
Emperor
Queen
Blue faced
Blue
French
Grey
Koran
Regal
Thanks,
Bill

Tagging along... A question for you though, would the 2 angels be the only fish in the tank?

FYI, those tanks dimensions would be for 135gal, 125gals are only 22" tall.

Sorry, you are correct on the height. But as for fish, there may be a few other small useful fish, but those would be the main fish.

I would go fo a french angel adult and another from your list and add them at the same time. The french angels have a much different body shape than the others which will help.I would recommend you get them at about 3-5 inch range as that size adapts best to tank life.I have 3 angel in my 300 a 7 inch queen,5 inch passer and a 9 inch maculoses.I tried adding a fourth angel an emperror but the others were definatly going to kill that one, it went well beyond the usual hazing. He is now doing well and almost out grown the othersin a 125 with other fish besides angels.Just remember angels are some of the meanest fish in the ocean even meaner than triggers they just do not have as big of teeth as triggers.Good luck and hoped this helps. Chris

I just put a juvenile imperator(emperor) and a juvenile queen together in my 180 today. They barely looked at each other. The emperor is about the size of a 1 dollar coin and the queen is about the size of a half dollar. I know one days worh of info doesn't help much. But I'll keep you updated if you want.

I keep them with

Purple Tang Adult
Tomini Tang Adult
Clown fish Adult
Flame Angel Juvenile
Racoon Butterfly

No static as of one day. Flame Angel tried with the queen for about 5 minutes. She held her own and he has since left her alone.

when looking, may want to try and get two angels from separate genus families. I was thinking of getting a juvenile emporer or koran and a scribbled for my tank.

I have the same tank and started with a 3.5" regal angel. Then added a 3" asfur angel, and finally a 4.5" emperor. The emperor is clearly the boss and grunts at the other angels but nothing serious. Make sure to have lots of hiding spaces for them.

I also heard that in time my emperor and asfur will become aggressive so make sure to have a plan B :)

Good luck!

I've had quite a few large angels over the years, and there are no guarantees, but here's my 2 cents:

Of the ones on your list I would try a juvenille Koran and a blueface. Different genus and neither one is near the top of the angel viciousness scale. Bluefaces tend to be a bit shy, although there are exceptions. Another option would be a majestic (navarchus) angel...they're beautiful and pretty well-behaved as far as large angels go, but they are in the same genus as the blueface, so a majestic and a koran wouldn't be a bad option. Don't mix a koran and juv emp....they look too similar and the koran will probably end up dead.

Generally I would avoid queens as they tend to be very vicious as they age....same with passers. Regals are fairly docile but more delicate to keep....they can be very picky eaters. Good luck!!!

In my old 125g, I had a 4.5" emperor and a 3.5" queen, both got along great. They were the best of buds and swam together a lot, no fighting ever. I wouldn't keep them in there for life though, both, as with almost any large angel, will out grow that tank. That is why I had to give them to a bigger home. I had a bigger 6" gray angel, but the emperor bullied him around too much, so I gave him to a better home as well.

How well can Emperor's take some aggression? It seems like they can dish it out, but don't really like to take it. Or are the guys over on wetwebmedia a bit over-exaggerating?

I think the emperor has to be the top dog, or it may not be good for him and his health. My brother had an emperor with a powder blue tang, the tang was the boss and the emperor just stayed out of his way. I eventually got the emperor and he was with my queen of equal size. No problems with them, but the emperor just didn't do well and eventually died. I got another emperor, slightly bigger then my queen and they were great. I added a larger gray angel and the emperor made quick work to show who was boss. They like to be the boss, in every tank I've seen, or it could be bad for their health.
