I have moon light on my tank too. I think I will increase feeding. What temp do you keep your tank? How stable?

Right now temp is 83.3 Temp isn't stable. Room has a/c that runs all day. If I remember to set the a/c timer to turn on the night before, tank usually hits 84 during the day and goes down to 82 by morning. If I forget, sometimes it goes to 86 during the day. I've forgot to shut it off at night, and wake up to tank temp at 79-80. Temp is far from stable. Tanks need a water change bad. Last KH was at 7 (too low, I aim for 10), the day I posted they spawned was last time I tested, just been using bionic in the morning somewhere between 15-30 ml each time. Not really stable in that area lately, either....

No spawn in the other tank that I noticed though. All the nems in the 210 are protesting to no water changes the last few weeks.

I have too many irons in the fire. Wish I could do anemones all day long though.

I could only find 2 of them now. I foolishly thought I could cut off a tentacle and get an egg out. The tentacle is a tenth of the size it was when it was attached to the anemone.



Well, it was fun to watch.
I forgot I had baby green ones too, so I think a green and purple are females. The green one is extremely difficult to look into, but the babies are easily found with actinics at night. Purple is easy to see into the anemone, but once released, tough to find. Green is not clear like the purples or blues near the disk.

That was months ago, or maybe a year ago. This past time, I didn't try to catch any, nor did I look for any very long. But, from the time the spawn happened, to now, I can find only a couple today. So from the 1st to the 6th, they have for the most part come and gone. I'm guessing they release at all times of the day, but I don't know. Sorry, wish I had more info for you. I'll let you know if I see some more tomorrow. I'm guessing it's a done event.

From what I read, BTA release babies by pinching off the tip of the tentacles.
Malu and Gigantea egress though the mouth.

Now that I know that they will spawn in captivity with good feeding, I will try to get them to spawn. Most of my anemones are in a position where I can remove them with the rock and put them in my 40 gal Refugium/Frag tank. If this happen, I will remove the female and put her in the frag tank. Decrease circulation so the released babies will not get chew up by circulation. Will see. Thanks for your information.

I still see a few today. Here's some pictures from tonight to compare tentacles of all of them.
Purple I suspect is the lady:


Tentacles look similar to the green, thick and long:


Everyone else is much shorter tents. All treated basically the same. Same tank for a few years now, same feeding, green gets the most intense light, purple gets much lower so I don't think lighting is a great difference between them. All get blasting flow.

So the last few days I've only seen one here and there. Today, I see about a dozen of them again.









Wish I knew more, or knew someone who could explain to me what I'm seeing.

There isn't many of us direct observing Gigantea sexually reproduce. You got to observe and record what happened.

Is there anyway it could be air trapped in the tentacles that the anemones are trying to pass I've seen that in a few of my anemones tentacles and I assumed it was air that got trapped in the anemone because my filter spits air once every hour. Just a thought

No, it's not air. I'm familiar with them having trapped air inside. When air is trapped, the tents float, and don't disappear, and reappear. Air looks silver, these things are clear and white. This combined with it's the only one of 7 in the tank with these spots, I'm thinking it's not air.

I'm sorry my pics are so crappy, it's an iphone though a magnifying glass. It's the best I can do. I found a double one today. Still about a dozen of them I can find today, first double I see. The pics won't pick up the clear parts of the spots.

I'm just a little unsure about what I'm seeing, OrionN says his malu released after a couple days. It's been a lot more than just a couple of days and I'm still seeing these things, and they are moving.

Anything worth noting I will record here for you. I tried to get the best pictures I could. It's hard to get a picture with them moving in the current so much, and when I turn off the flow, they puff up and I can't find them.

From your pictures it seem that they may budded off at the tip of the tentacles rather than egressed through the mouth.

If you see any still there, try to keep an eye on it in the evening after light out and see if you get budding of the tentacles
