Do you have any thing else in there for flow? Your water surface should have a lot of movement, the primary way O2 gets into our water is via exchange at the surface and that water surface should be very active.

What pump are u using to pump back up from the wet dry.

It sounds to me like lack of oxygenated water and the fish suffocated.

I noticed your pH is 7.8, this indicitive of water that has a low oxygen content or s tank that had not cycled fully.

As a point of reference I have my skimmers pump pumping 300 gph + two maxi jet 1200's (300 gph each) on opposite sides of the tank pointed up at the surface, finally a Koralia 1 (400 gph) blowing across my rocks.

put a cheap koralia powerhead in the tank, get some flow going and i bet u will have live fish. Fish need oxygen.

Was the fish hanging out in the top portion of the water? Usually a wet/dry does a great job oxygenating.

usually when a fish is lacking oxygen they swim to the top of the tank but other stressors may have kept him hiding.

an ORP probe. but PH will be a good indicator. low PH can point to low oxygen. I'm sure there's a chemical test kit out there as well.
