Stock pump means nothing. Find out what stock pump it is or how many gph it is and that will tell alot. Especially if that is your only means of oxygenation.Without flow oxygen is consumed up pretty fast by bacteria, liverock everything.

Without doubt I would be willing to bet you have an oxygen depleted tank. No oxygen=death. Get a koralia or powerhead in there.

It doesn't tell you anything unless you know that it's usually 8.2 and it droped down to 7.8 that would be a definate clue to low oxygen but just saying that it's 7.8 may mean that you need to add a buffer. when you said that you got the water from your LFS' tank tells me that the water is seasoned and not new salt water from a salt mix (which has all the buffers to bring it up) so it's hard to diagnose with so little info

haha how much you wanna bet? ill bet this tank of rock i have sitting next to me hahaha. im sooooooooooooo frustrated, and i know its patience.

So you have about 9-10X water movement which is fine for a fish only tank but if you decide on corals you'll have to add a power head or 2 later on.

That rock consumes the oxygen and u r most likely depleted of oxygen without enough flow.

put a cheap simple air stone in there...That's the cheapest way to get oxygen.

When u lose power you dont have alot of time before all the oxygen is consumed by bacteria and without backup sources suffocation happens.

243 gph is not much flow. And how many feet below the tank is the pump setting? reducing flow to?

so it pumps up 2' or more? to top of tank or up from a sump?

Small pumps like that lose alot of gph due to height.

top of tank, he doesnt have a skimmer in his, he does frequent water changes. he has an array of coral in his also with fish

Airstone will get u oxygen and that would be my cheap and ez start.

That pump is weak. Add more flow.

i have never had any fish just die like this ever, but i knew right from the start oxygen is number 1.
