2 Fish instantly Die... please help

Hello guys,
I need some help understanding why I just lost my flame angel and yellow eye tang and the same time in my reef tank.
Here are my Tank parameters.
Ph 8.0
Ammonia .10
nitrite 0
KH 8
salinity 1.025
55g tank octopus bh1000 HB skimmer, marineland 280 HB filter 75lb Live rock
2 circulation pumps 1 power head.

I bought these fish from bluezoo.com both seemed to be in good condition. after Acclamation they both seemed still in good health, no white spots no jacked up fins, nothing. With in 3 hrs the flame angel was already grazing around on the rocks. while the tang was still shy hiding in the back. 3 days later both of them were out grazing around like normal, eating off the seaweed clip and picking on the rocks.
Today 7 days after I got them, I thought it was strange that both of them weren't out shortly after the lights came on. So I went hunting... I found the flame angel dead and on the other side of the tank the yellow eye tang was dead too. I don't know what happened or what too think of this. I still have 2 bangaii cardinals 2 clowns 1 blenny 1 goby an a royal gramma and all my corals that still look great and thriving.
Does anyone know what could have caused this instant death? I know .10 ammonia isn't good but is that bad enough to instantly kill these 2 fish?

well ammonia should be 0

and nitrite doesn't really mean much

nitrate is what is important

also how did you acclimate them?
 
If you can get your water to test like my params in my sig line, with zero ammonia, you will be in good shape.
 
Tanks a little small for the tang. did it look okay for the first few days, or was it looking poor all along?
 
Okay regardless of all the above, none of that should have killed your fish.

Nothing visible from what you've told us anyways.

Hm... did you make any changes very recently? Anything within a day of their death?

Did any of the other fish come with these two? Or was these two purchased separately?

Not in saltwater. The lc50 for ocellaris clowns is many times higher than most test kits are capable of measuring. If you manage to kill a marine fish with nitrite, it'd have to be done intentionally.


0.1 ppm ammonia will also not cause instant fish death. However, it could have been much higher in the hours before you measured, so it's not something to dismiss.
 
Bluezoo ships their fish at about 1.017. Raising SG that fast to your 1.025 while drip acclimating likely killed them with ammonia toxicity.

I know my ammonia should be 0 and it always has been but i believe it was .1 because of the 2 fish that were laying in the tank for 12hrs or so dead. I did a water change 5 days before the fish where acclimated into the tank and all param's where perfect. I had a coral that died in the tank that was from the same order as well that also could have played a part in the ammonia rise. I also got 2 banggaii cardinals from the same order that are still alive and doing great. The only thing that changed was the 2 new koralia pumps. My LFS said it it could have been a electric charge or and dead zone in my tank that got pushed around. I run my skimmer 24/7 emptying it everyday.
Both fish were doin great for 4 days before the pumps were added, They both were eatting within 24 hrs after being placed in the tank.

Sounds like a possibility. The issue is that it's hard to tell, because different well, things affect different fish differently. I believe that the current likely suspects are:

1.) They may not have been healthy from bluezoo, if the coral died too. But the bangaiis didn't so, hm.
2.) Koralia pumps. Don't know how, but if they seem to be fine previously, and the newest additions just before they died is the koralia pumps, then they seem suspicious.

However, it's really hard to tell what's the true killer. :/
 
Also at 55 Gallon your kole tang and flame angel probably were really stressed out with the lack of space, all the more detrimental to their health
