2 Mp 10's or 1 Mp40? HELP

I am finally about to bite the bullet and upgrade my flow to either of the vortech mp's

I was planning to get an MP40 but after some research I hear a lot about how running these 2 of these creates the best results.

I have a 75 gallon with sps,lps, shrooms and zoas. I plan to keep it a mixed reef. I do plan to upgrade my tank sometime in the future to a 6' whether it be 125 or 180. this is why I wanted to get the mp40 so I could get another down the road before I setup a new tank.

my debate is that these pumps do hold their value. So if I bought 2 MP10's I could sell them with a little loss then get 2 mp40's. Or should I keep a current powerhead on one side and add a MP40 to the other.

If you we're not going to upgrade I would have said go with two mp10 as one mp40 will leave you with some dead spots. Two mp40 is what I would recommend if you are going to upgrade to a 6 foot tank later.

I own a mp60 and had it on my 125g and putting it on my 220g but if your going to upgrade a 60 for sure, the 60 is maintainance free as far as bushings and kits to buy when they get noisy. Also 2 mp40s at full blast equal 1 mp60 at full

Or check out a jebao thread. Those things hands down beat my mp40.

I would only put 2 MP40s on a 180 if you have a center overflow. If you have a comer overflow an MP60 is a much better option

Seriously, check out the Jebao thread. I would love to have bought 2 MP40's for my 180g DT. But $930 for 2 powerheads... really? Just not worth the cost. They are great pumps and work really well, but the price is SO over inflated! Even the Tunze at $335 ea ($670 for 2) is crazy!

Enter the Jebao WP40. The same flow as the MP40. It's simple to set up. Mine is quite as a mouse (more quiet than a friend's MP40's). Oh, and 2 of them are only $170 ($85 each). In due time these pumps will force Eco Tech and Tunze to lower prices. And Jebao is supposed to release a WP25 smaller version in May.

I wouldnt want to run 2mp10 near max. That would be loud. Just stick with a couple koralias evo for 80 bucks total.

They look good, what's the difference between wp40 and mp40? These almost seem too good to be true but after watching some videos and what not they seem to be a better choice. If I knew about theses would have had one a long time ago, the mp40's price is what has made me think long and hard about purchasing.

I have 2 MP 10s running synch/anti synched on a 75 gallon mixed reef for a year now.

First - they're great pumps, I have no idea what the budget pumps folks here are talking about are, but... you get what you pay for.

Second - I run them at max and I can barely hear them at all.

Third - I am planning on upgrading to an MP40 and moving my 2 MP10s to one side of the tank for syncing. For SPS's - you need a lot of flow. I ended up adding in two medium size Koralia's to cover some dead areas in my tank.

I just wonder how these $80 pumps will last, and no customer service to boot. Good luck with that warranty.
BTW I chose 2 mp10 for my 76 half circle

Ron whats your thoughts on the jaebo wp40. Im wanting a wavemaker but Im still tossing tunze or koralia, ecotech is way overpriced just my own opinion and at 80 a piece even if they only last a year your still going to have 6 years before you pay for an ecotech

The Jaebo is interesting from a cost perspective. For 89.00 I would by a new one if it fails - so I don't really care about support. With my MP40s I do care about support cause the investment is so much higher. There is a market for both though...

MP40 being compared to Jaebo is really an apples to oranges comparison. Do I want the motor in my tank? do I want precious space taken up in my tank? Do I have a need to have the pumps wirelessly synced? Is cost a primary concern? Do you have an affinity for supporting US based companies?

Everyone has their own answers to those questions. Both move water and that no one can argue about!
