Over my 130 gallon tank, I have a 10K 250 watt medal halide and a 660 Icecap ballast. The 660 will run (4)four T12VHOs or (2)two T12 VHOs and (1) one 96 Watt T5. I can populate the 4 VHOs with actinics that I already have. I also have a T5 that looks very white.
I like the shimmering white light of the metal halide. I also like the defuse blue light that the actinics put out as a backgrown shade and of course I like how they bring out the color of the corals. On the other hand, I don’t like defuse white light. It dulls the white shimmer of the metal arc.
So ….should I install (2)two actinic VHOs on top of the tank and put the white T5 over the refugium or should I use all (4)four VHOs on top and just get a other lighting for the refumium?
I don’t know if four VHOs will help the growth of the corals. Are two enough? Would four be better or just over kill?
