20 Gallon Tank Placement on counter

for typical apartment counter, it has a 12" wide counter, probably MDF.

Tank width is around 15-16" wide. Can I get away with use MDF
shelf from Lowes to support the weight? I can stack 2 shelves as well.
Roughly 1.5-2" overhang with shelves.

I already have a 17 gallon on the counter. My other concern is total weight.
Estimate 200-400 pounds per tank.

Am I already pushing it with the 17 gallon?

Depends on what's under the MDF, if its solid 2x4's then you should be fine. Even plywood would be ok, but if its all built with MDF then I wouldn't chance it!

The thing with fish tanks is they are filled with water and eventually you will spill some of that water. I wouldn't trust MDF around water at all.
