I'm planning on floating for at least 30 minute before I start mixing water to make sure the temperature is about the same. Any other pointers?

Ok - I've opened the bag - the temp is still 1 degree lower than the tank - once it comes up a little more i'll start mixing water.

Here are a few new pictures.

Good! I'm glad someone's looking! :) I wanted to post them anyway - just so I have a history of it.

Things are going well now - I'm filling a turkey baster with tank water each 5 minutes - and putting it into the bag. Then after 5 times - taking out 5 turkey basters worth of water from the bag and starting over.

I think after 2 or 3 times of this he should be all ready to go!

He's puffing up his foot now - so I think he's starting to acclimate to the new water - or he's at least taking some of it in.

Heck, I even looked ( and replied ) before leaving for work. :)

Thanks ShawnD - so far so good! I hope yours starts as good as mine! Are you taking off work at all or will you be getting it on your way home?

Oh good Todd! :) I'm glad! I'm just crossing my fingers that everything continues to go well!

You should probably dim the lights in the room/close blinds as its been in total darkness for over 12 hours. He will acclimate much better if he doesn't have to acclimate to new tank parameters and new lighting. I would also suggest leaving them off for at least 6 hours.

That tank looks really small for an anemone. Good luck with him.

Thanks fittiger for your advice! I did just close the blinds and now the only light is the sunlight coming through the doorway from the room on the other side of the house. That was a great idea. I did read to keep the tank lights off for 4 hours - but you think 6 huh? Not a bad idea!

Thanks for your good luck! I've successfully kept a H. Malu in this tank before - but this one is bigger to start - so if he outgrows it he can go in my other larger tank. :)

If you kept them off until tomorrow it would probably be better, although I understand you are eager to see your new specimen in full glory. This will allow it plenty of time to adjust to the new tank before it has to adjust to new lighting as well.

I really like the maroon/purple/beige malu as well! Very interesting color. What temperature do you keep these tanks? I've heard sebae's like cooler water (72-77F), but never kept one myself.

It does look good..........notice how the tentacles are longer & not all pudgy........that's a healthy sign.

I think 4 hours will be more then enough. I am not even sure I have left my lights off that long.

To be honest - I'm much more interested in making sure it acclimates properly and healthily than rushing to see it in full glory. So please - any advice is welcome!!

But I have a question about leaving the lighting off for too long. This question goes along with people who turn pumps off while waiting for the anemone to find it's place and settle down. I guess one thought is that anemones won't settle and find a place until they find one where they like the lighting and flow. So wouldn't turning these things off for long periods of time just have the anemone start roaming to try to find a better place - thus expelling unneeded energy? Once the lights and flow are back - aren't they then going to roam to find the place that's right? This seems like a lot of stress too - so I'm just wondering what you all think is best and more important?

Thanks for the compliment! That ones is great - it keeps getting darker by the day - it is a very dark maroon with bright purple tips and the beige on the outer ring is very dark now too.

I keep both my tanks at about 76-77.

I hadn't heard that they liked cooler than that. Interesting.

When I got my last Haddoni, my powerheads where only off for the first hour -- while it was attaching its foot to the bottom glass, after that I turned them back on. I do that, like you said, so that I know that it is going to settle there after it is under "tank conditions". As for lights, I sometimes shorten the photoperiod, but not always. However, my lights don't come on until 3 PM ( The MH that is ) and most of the time any new anemones are in the tanks by Noon at the latest.

I think that sounds like a good plan Todd.

Any other thoughts?

So far it's been in the tank in darkness for almost 2 hours - 40 minutes of floating and then 3 25 minute sets of the baster acclimation described above.

Since this tank has a lighting upgrade on it - I'm able to turn on just 1 of the 3 lights at a time. So - after another 2 hours - I'll turn on just the 1 light.

As for the pumps - I'll leave them off for the 1st hour - then try turning 1 on for an hour -then the other?

I am assuming that you took the day off?

I like your plan about the pumps, assuming that you are going to be home -- just in case it starts to release. And what lights are you running again on your tank?

Yep - I'm working from home.

When I do leave - IF the Koriela is one then I'll cover it with hose or turn it off while I'm gone. I think I'll just cover it with hose for the first week or so anyway.

It's the 14g biocube and I have the 3.24 upgrade done from Nanocustoms. So it has 3x24w(72). I know - it's PC lighting - but my other 2 malu's are thriving and getting very dark under pc lighting in my other tank. So HOPEFULLY I'll be fine. If not - I'll just have to get the MH upgrade or a different tank!
