2000 Gallon Reef Pool

wow, outstanding, thanks for sharing

I am amazed you can keep those Angels with all those clams.

Did I understand you correctly that you are not feeding the fish?

Yes, I do not feeding the fish at all in last eight month...

its dream come true set up and using naturtal sunlight is key. do you have pics of filterating, skimmer, pumps ?

I will post some pics of the equipment in next update, actually it is very simple.

Nothing looks better in a reef tank than the natural sunlight.
That was the first thing in the pictures that struck me.

Beautiful tank and I hope everything does well in the future.
I love it.
Thanks, I love the feeling of natural sunlight, Unfortunately there are only few sunning days in Beijing every year, and there are eight 400W Metal Halide light for the pool if it's needed.

This is amazing, how many fish are in there?
wo.......... actually I do not know, I think the number is less than 100.

Amazing Tank/Pool! I'm glad that you updated the thread. Hopefully all works out in the basement for you.

Very interesting on not feeding the fish. What is the theory behind it? I know this is a very very big tank, but with 100 fish how do you go about NOT feeding them?

The fish look extremely good and healthy!

This is exactly what many of us in the hobby dream of doing! It's nice to see someone who has fulfilled their dream.

Yes, the pool and the idea are amazing!
I was wondering, what happened to the little coconut palm and are you going to try one again?
Thank you for sharing this with the world!

Wow! So unreal. Can't believe I just found this one. I love how it goes from shallow to deep just like a real pool. How big is the skimmer on this? You've got alot of nice growth in the past year...Great job!

to lebreef : it is also a surprised for me that all these fish could live without feed, maybe the live rock is enough for them to find the food.

to Kiril Donov: One of coconut palms dead and only one left, the lession for this is although the temperature and humidity is good for coconut palm but the temperature of soil is too low in winter. The situation of the left one is not good(growth slowly and looks unhealthy) :-(

to steevareno2002 : The skimmer is a Bubble Magus 800 (I do not know if it is only sale in China.)

Amazing where did you get the nice colony sps from? Don't usually see colonies this big for sale anymore. As far as water changes go how do you accomplish this, and do you buy skids of salt?

Welles you keep promising us fish room pictures... Can we see them now, I think many of us would like to see that! :-)

Thanks for sharing this amazing reef!

Here is the pics for the equipment room, I think many friends will feel disappointed, it is very dirty and low tech :-)

1.The sump and the skimmer
room1.jpg

The skimmer is a Bubble Magus 800, this one is the prototype actually, from the founder of Bubble Magus. Although it is looks bad, but this skimmer has great quality and has been used for many years (older than this pool)

The sump is very simple, mostly for this skimmer only, and you could see two white pipe on the right, these pipes were connected with a titanium tube to control temperature by cold water or warm water.

2.The RO/DI system
room2.jpg

An industrial grade RO/DI system and a tank on the left to prepair salt water for water change (we use Instant Ocean salt)

3.Sodium bicarbonate and Calcium chloride
room3.jpg

Sodium bicarbonate and Calcium chloride for KH and Calcium, it is very easy and cheap to get analytical grade chemical materials, so many aquarist in China is using dosing pump + chemical materials instead of Calcium Reactor.

I disagree!! lol, im not disappointed at all. All this means is that you dont need hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment to run this set up. Which makes this dream set up more attainable to people like me who have always wanted to set something like this up!

I love how the skimmer neck is directly connected to an output spout. Forget about connecting a tube from the collection cup, just take it directly from the neck! :-)

And nice RO/DI system! How much RO/DI water does that make an hour?
