2000g System overview

Would love to come by and check it out as you are not too far from me (West Palm). The 950g storage tank will be a very nice touch, but I ahve to tell you it will considerably increase your running costs for carbon, salt, water, O/DI prefilters/DI resins, etc. If you end up not needing a chiller, then that is a great trade off.

The aqua scaping will only go down to 24". I will be using T5'S on the outside of the MH's in 54 watt. If I need extra, I'll bump them up to 80 watt to hit the bottom.

Your invited anytime. I'm actually going to try and come to your meeting at the end of this month. You have one of the nicest tanks down here in south florida. When I started going through my build on paper I took a lot of info from you.

nyvp,

you tank is very similar to mine. 120 x 35 x 35.

however, mine in 3/4 starphire with eurobracing and cross bracing on the top.

I am also running 250w 10k xm in lumerarcs. however, i supplement with vho. better in this application, i think.

it's funny, because your setup is so similar it's like you looked at my data and copied it. having said that, if you have any questions let me know. I have made a ton of mistakes along the way and it sucks.

how are you doing the canopy?

I agree with you, if the tank water flows through it, it counts!

how do you like your xm's?
My canopy will be kitchen cabinet tops built in so I can get up there and get my arm in.
What are some of the things you think you could have done better?

I'm assuming storage water and sump will be in basement, storage water is great but why not have a 1000 gallon fuge? This would increase water volume and also ruduce phos and nitrate ALOT. I can see electricty being an issue but I can see you making an easy $100 a week in the selling forum to make up for the bill ... people go crazy for macro.

I'm assuming storage water and sump will be in basement...

There just aren't that many basements in south Florida.

I am using t5 on a 30" deep tank that I just setup, the light could easily reach a 36" depth, I am running 54w bulbs so you should be fine. post more pics :D

>>> we call basements in Florida ....swimming pools. J/K The water table is to high so 99% of homes are built without basements.
The Storage tank will be buried next to the house. If you look at the picture of the stand my goal is to have nothing under the tank ( may change )
The problem also is building a 1000 gallon fuge + parts + lighting would be well into 10k by its self
The Tank should be done in 2 weeks ( cross fingers).
Next week if everything goes well I should start Demo on the wall and running the electric.
How many and what amp do you guys think I should run. 3- 20 amps?

My bad I didnt know florida houses didnt have basements ... I have had dreams of a 1000g Display and if I ever did it I wanted to put a 1000g fuge in a green house lit by sunlight.

This is one thing that is easy and cheap to overdo and will not hurt you to. I don't know what you have planned for cooling (in case you need it) and flow (pumps and their electrical use), but for my system I got 4 x 20A in 120V and one 30A in 220V. If I was to do it all over again, I would do one 20A in 120V and 3 x 220V and run as much of the equipment on 220V. I know all sequence pumps and the PFO ballasts can be had in 220V, so I would run those that way and leave the 120V breaker for smaller stuff that is 120V. Same electrical usage either way, but 220V equipment seems to run much mroe efficiently for what I've been told by a few electrical gurus. Don't ask me why as I don't know really.

Hope you like your tank from Bob. He did mine and di an awesome job at it!!

what type of corals are you planning on having?

i would worry aboutyour in ground tank cooling your tank too much. is it going to be on a temp control to take it out of the loop? the gound is MUCH cooler than you want to run your tank.

i think you are looking for trouble there.

a better idea might be as described in volume 3 of Delbeeks book the reef aquarium. pvc pipe run underground on a loop with a temp controller to come on as needed.

Carl

Dude, south FL is very hot even in the dead of winter. Running loops underground does work, but so deos his idea as well. I seriously doubt it will cool it too much, but we could be wrong.

I'm going to put my heaters (3-500 watt) in the cistern. I will be running a seq 4200 I belive as the return to my tank. I think with my auqa III controller I will be ok as of not haven't to worry to much about over cooling.
Remember the cistern will be turning over 3-4 times an hr.
I think just the added gallons will keep my tank cooler as well from what I've heard.
Btw dgasmd your tank has been an inspiration to me since I started my research.

Yeah, until you've had the pleasure of running your AC in February you just can't appreciate how hot it is all the time down here.

Well I thought I had it bad in TX with the heat LOL
On my next tank setup these are some of the things I am going to try out
1000 g remote plastic water tank with 8 to 12ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ of sand in the bottom
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=595109 Anthony Calfo
The remote water storage tank will be in a small room with a window air conditioner & heater to control the water temp a small window unit is a lot less than a large chiller
I will have only one small pump that feeds the recirculation skimmer
The skimmers water exit pipe will be the highest point
Tank feeds skimmer
Skimmer feeds remote water storage
Remote water storage feeds Refugium
Refugium feeds the tank
I really like your planned setup
Ken

well the long wait is almost over here are the pics from this week . Tank should be ready next week . CHEER !!!!
