2000g System overview

I doubt you have much trouble cooling the water. I have 1200 gallons and I do not run any heaters or chillers. My tank averages from 80.4 - 80.7 degrees. I do not have any artificial lighting (so that saves me some heat) but I also have 6 sequence 6000s. If I turn 2 pumps off, the temperature will drop 3 degrees in the tank. I live in Southern Alabama which have similar weather to you. Another note, My tank front glass is 10'x3'x1/2" tempered and I have had no problems. I have 3 pieces of 1/4"x1" stainless flatbar across the top to suppout the glass.

I'm 10x2.5x1/2" but not tempered. Alot of people gave me flack but the builder has the same tank for over 15 years in his tank.....if its good enough for him then you know its ok with me. Sometimes I think we get go to the extreme for overkill in this hobby.

As of flow ....wow 6- 6000 is a heck of a lot of flow.

Thanks for your input jeremy

I'm putting granite under my tank and wanted to know what everyone suggests to use under tank to soften it, I hear granite is a very hard surface. Someone told me neoprene or foam. what's better?

Just a thought.... but will your cistern be setup so it's easily accessed for maintenance?

I had a satelite sump years ago and failed to take into account just how often I would need to access it for cleaning. It not only accumulated detritus, but all kinds of interesting things started colonizing the interior walls.

Nice setup going on there. You could use a foam underneath it if you really want. Does the glass sit flat? Or is it on a plastic rim? If it is flat, then neoprene or some type of foam directly across the whole tank works fine. If it has a trim then only foam the trim part.

I honestly don't think you should have to foam any of it. If I recall, granite is pretty dang straight and should not cause an issue. I've never seen a warped piece of granite.

I agree with the total water volume also. If it's part of the system, then add it in. I'd possibly add a internal pump into the cistern that you can turn on that would churn the whole thing up very hard to get any excess nutrients.

jay24k its just straight glass. You brought up an idea about silt in the cistern. Its after the skimmer , rdsb, refuge. I don't think there will be much left to clean after that but it couldn't hurt. maybe something on the bottom like a spray bar with a squirt and some revolutions ... buy it using the lowest flow possible. or just open the cistern 1 a week and throw a stream in there.

If you put a Seio 1100 in the cistern, you'd have pretty good flow kicking up the bottom and it'd be a $60 pump.

Could do that or even a couple Maxijet 1100's moded. Power consumption would be really low and maybe put it on a time to run one hr per day.

Update:

Bought the sump its a used 240g acrylic that I will be sectioning up

My stand was just completed. I was originaly going to go with the concrete one but needed to be able to get through the sides so now it just regular 2x2 3/16th steel.

I need to grind, seal and paint it still. I ordered the Granite top and that should be in this week.

I wish. Waiting on my @*!#$ Marble guy to deliver my granite. Tank just collecting dust.

I took down wall

To understand stand size its 10 ft x 3 ft x 4 ft

and painted the stand though so thats movin forward.

I also ran 2 -12/3 wire so I will have 4 20 amp circuits for power. I think that should be enough. Will update when more happens

I think this will be my lighting set up

2 -- Hamilton Metal Halide Ballast 250k
4 -- SLS Lumen Max 2 Needed to go smaller ones so I could add the t5's on the side instead of going with the full size lumen max
4 250's xm 10k's and 8 t5 54's

Any idea's on this?

at least you are starting to get somewhere! It's so hard to be patient when waiting for someone else to get their act together. :D

Jeez I give you two pics and you want the whole thing done tomorrow. Good news is granite is coming on sat and early next week the tank should be delivered.

Can I ask why you are setting the tank on granite? Will there be some exposed? Does it have to be drilled for plumbing? How will it be sealed? I used granite in a bathroom and plan on using more, but it has been an eye opening experience for sure. It does need to be maintained of course but I think if it is properly sealed that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Drilling it and polishing it is another matter entirely...that's where the real headache lies!

Can I ask why you are setting the tank on granite?

>>> I like the way it looks and its in my livingroom so I wanted it to look more upscale

Will there be some exposed?

>>> Yes 4 inches all around for two reasons 1 is as a small catwalk and two it just finishes off the tank in a nice way.

Does it have to be drilled for plumbing?

>>>Thats the installers headache

How will it be sealed?

See above comment 8 )
