2008 M.A.R.S. Frag Swap March 1st

The Tyree Insignis is good to go :)
I will be bringing like 60 or so myself Perry. I have beeen asked a lot by new people how they come with three and I tell them they will leave with 10-15. It is through generosity from guys like you that make the swa[ps so amazing. I learned from the best at previous swaps, and am excited to kick down now to others.

It is very true, the last three swaps I have been to, I have left with about 10 frags. The first two I was only able to bring my three frags, the dixon one I think I brought 14, and my wife brought 14. This time my wife is unable to attend, so not sure how many I will be bringing, but shooting for that 12v or so range.

We are all most grateful for all the goodies from everyone! Some stuff where I had thought, "No way would anybody want a frag of _____," just to see it gone first round to an excited reefer.

What time does it start and end?

I have a appointment at noon with my tax lady

:(

Swapping starts at noon :mad2:

The swap is March 1st at 8267 Deseret Ave
Fair Oaks, CA 95628. We will be opening the doors at 11:00 a.m. and the swapping will take place at noon. There will be a free raffle and a delicious lunch. If you have rares please be there right at 11:00 so there will be time enough to have them judged.
It would also be greatly beneficial and cheaper if you prepay on paypal. The cutoff for the discounted admission will be the thursday night before the swap at midnight. We ask that there be no ziplock bags and that all frags are marked as to what they are. For rares the frags must also include who they are from. This should be fun and I can't wait to see you all there.

What do you mean by free raffle? Door prize style tickets for all?

Yep, as each person is admitted they will get free tickets with their paid admission. We look forward to giving something back to make this event as rewarding as possible for all who attend.

Flyer is now ready!

Flyer is now ready!

Here is the flyer for the event. You should see this popping up online and at the LFS all over. Print them out and send them to your friends! Read it to your kids at night! Post it as your screen saver and stick it up all over the refrigerator!

Viva el swap!

Ok, so: I'm a "newbie" with only 5 pcs of coral in my tank. I'd like to bring my girlfriend. $24 at the door is all that's required right?

I'm not a member of any club
Can we just LOOK at all the frags in the swap?

ALSO: won't most of the frags be closed up from the travelling?

$24 at the door would cover your lunch. Since you are not a member of a club that is all you can really take part in is the lunch, but can meet some other people who share the hobby.
And it would give you a great peek into the happenings of a frag swap, so that if you are interested you could join a club before the next one.

The frags are typically closed from travelling, but after an hour or so on the table during check in, they will start opening, atleast a lot of them will.
We rely on the descriptions that the person who brought the piece writes on the container.

If you bring a flashlight <some people bring blue to see the flourescents> you can generally get a good peek at the piece.

And just a side note Sk8rreefgeek.

If you and your girlfriend both made yourself eligible to pick corals, the 6 pieces you brought <3 each> will most likly turn into 10 pieces each that you would take home. You could dang near fill a 55 gallon with frags at that rate.

yea, I'm just trying not to pack a bunch in right now, and hold out for some cool rare stuff.

But I'm willing to pay the $24 if we can at least look at everything

I AM confined to a 55g lol

I am in a 55 gallon myself, and it is packed full. Only a few rares, and all fairly new ones.

I am sure you are more then welcome to poke around.

According to the flyer MrMike just posted you can join Mars at the swap.

Thats correct. Folks can sign up as a MARS member at the swap or you can sign up anytime at the website: http://www.marineaquarist.org.

The swap itself is open to the public (with entrance fee paid to cover lunch), and you are more than welcome to look around. There will be a small window prior to the picking where people can quickly look through the table, but its not easy to see much by looking through small GLAD containers stacked up on a table. The pre-game show is really intended to get your bearings on where you want to go when your group is up to pick.

That being said, meeting a bunch of folks, enjoying the good food, a little side horse trading, raffles and the works is just a good time for all. I love the post-frag swap trading with all the new frags that occurs... some really nice scores in the past this way.

Yes another good point. If you see something local for sale you are interested in, the frag swap is a great meeting place for tradeing or buying/selling pre-arranged deals.

sounds cool. I'll probably see y'all there. I would love to bring some nice stuff to the table, maybe I'll bring a few pcs from Lodi

would TAP Plastics have the containers required?
