2009 All Ohio CORA Frag Swap - Saturday September 12th - Achbar Grotto

Nice swap guys thanks for the work you put into it. I only wish I didn't have to work that night and could have stayed longer.

Kudos to all the volunteers who made the swap possible. You guys made it look easy.

I really hope the early bird hobbyist setup becomes standard for all swaps. It made things so much easier. I also liked how the aisles were nice and wide, so people could move around. Things were a little tight at the last Cleveland swap.

Overall best swap I've been to. Thank you.

was it just me or was the crowd a bit lighter, I got there as the doors opened and there was a nice group of door busters but then it seemed to thin a bit after that first push

did everyone catch my pride and join carrying the red cooler in pic #4
I had to bride him with Taco bell for the way home to come down with me, but it was worth it.

I want to thank you all for all the work you put in to putting on this great swap. Erika and I had a blast and got some great stuff from the vendors and other hobbyists!

I also want to thank Salty Critter for donating the MP10 to the raffle, we won't have to set up a closed loop on our new 37 gallon tank now! :)

I'm also liking the colors on our corals in the 120 gallon now with the 14k Artemis bulbs we won, too. Thanks again Hobby Lighting and Ken for getting them to donate those bulbs and being a guinea pig with testing them on your own tanks. :)

Zeppelin, you asked for suggestions and other comments for next time. I think one thing would be giving the hobbyists tables a little bit more room in the back of the table so we have a little more breathing room and maneuverability. Other than that I think you guys did a bang up job on everything! The food was great, the location was great, the atmosphere was great!

I can't wait for next year. :D

Great! Glad to hear everyone had a good time!
As for more room behind the tables I agree, in hindsight, that would have been ideal. I think we were really focusing on facilitating flow around the tables that we may have forgot to leave enough room behind. But overall I really like this layout, at one point the parking lot was completely full (never done before) but it never really felt crammed in there.

You know Dave, I haven't felt that bad about a loss since the '98 loss to MSU...
Very disheartening :(

We seemed to have a steady stream of people at the table until about 3:00. Most of them were there to see Geo's talents on display, but that's beside the point. :D Because it was so steady, I never really got to walk around and look or mingle much.

Well organized guys! I echo the space between the tables though. Another foot or two would go a long ways. Also, I arrived close to 10:00 and needed almost all of that time to get set up and settled...hopefully we can keep that arrival time for hobbyists next year.

Thanks everyone! :) And, don't forget to support the vendors that support our club with raffle donations and attendance at our swap!

Norm, that work was great looking. I did not know who did it at the time but was staring at it just the same. I do a little bit of wood working and have always wanted to try my hand at acrylic work. Seeing George's stuff though sets the bar well above what I could ever dream of turning out.

I could never win a raffle even if I were the only guy entering it?!
but still echo that "support those that support you statement". It was great to see all the prizes up there and for the club to have recieved such support even in these tough times. Thanks to all those companies that donated something

Great swap

Great swap

Great swap guys and thanks to all who worked on the arrangements. This is the first swap I didn't bring anything to sell and just mingled, kinda nice. Did take a few items home though.

Thanks for leaving early Mark. Just after you left Jason hung a "FREE FRAGS" sign on your tank. see above...

I haven't seen the official numbers yet, but I think we were well into the upper 300s. I'm sure Eric will chime in with something more exact.

I agree about the room for hobbyist seating. This year one of the things we tried to focus on was room to roam without being elbow to elbow. We left ample room between the vendor tables and the hobbyists. I think we can cheat that a little next year and give the hobbyists more room for seating, no problem.

That extra isle room is what probably made it seem like a lighter crowd. In reality, it was right up there with the best the swap had done in better economic times. Thank you again for all your support. Without all of you, it wouldn't have been near the success it was for all invloved.

Dont forget to support the vendors who took the time to set up and help make the event a success. If I recall right, Midwest Saltwater had a 7 1/2 hour drive home after the swap. Thats a haul after driving to the swap, setting up, standing all day, and tearing down. I think Dirk had the same drive. Cherry Corals also had a long drive back up north to the state that shall not be named. ;) Thanks to all the vendors that helped make the event such a success. There were some stellar coral frags available this year.

And lets not forget Fragswapper. Thanks to those folks for such a stellar site for us to use. I think we set some sort of record with over 800 frags posted for the swap this year. Outstanding.

Very nice swap and a thank you to everyone
Sorry if I was a little cranky and a bit tired, got up at 8am, left MN 3 pm friday, did the swap, drove back to Bill's house and finally got to bed at 2am sunday
Then drove the other 6 hours sunday afternoon. Ouch
Hopefully see some of you in Cincy in October

I think that's pretty accurate Larry. We didn't have an official counter, but it looks like there were about ~375-400ish through the doors the that day.

I really liked having the extra room to move around. I hate beingelbowed around in crowds. Not bad mannors just too many people for the space in the past.
I know I picked up two or three more pieces than I likely would have if I had to fight my way to a tank. And that number was without really having a big need for certain things. A couple of my students want to monitor some mili and monti growth rates. Not really experimental but more of a how well do the groups do in our set ups.
