For those of you that couldn't make it to the SEASL Club meeting today, let me tell you, you missed out on a GREAT presentation on LED lighting by Brad Murphy.
Hope to see you at the final club event of the year at the Aquatice Treasures Store Visit Dec 22nd.

"Ditto" EXCELLENT job Brad! So Jim, how's the new LED fixture working out?

There was even time for some open discussion on member's experience with the latest phosphate and nitrate reduction methods. That's what I love about this club, people sharing knowledge and experiences face-to-face. The only thing missing was lunch. Let's plan for an after meeting lunch in January.

Unfortunately, I will not be at the next meeting unless it is held on the 22nd or 29th. We will be on vacation Jan 7-17.

Thanks guys! Here's hoping this technology will make the hobby all the easier and more successful by reducing electrical cost, wasted light, excess heat, and repeated light replacement. There are some serious advantages to LEDs that are just beginning to be tapped.

I hope the light works out well Jim, please let me know your experiences over the coming months.

The presentation reminded me of the real value of this organization and others like it. I have been trying to get professionals to help me with LEDs for a while now and most don't have the expertise to make valid recommendations when you start to apply this technology to new areas. Hobbyists, as opposed to scientists and engineers, are really the ones who drive innovation and Salt Water hobbyists are no exception. Keep playing and keep sharing what works. Thanks Brad for your excellent presentation and unselfish gift of your time and expertise.

Brad do you have any instructions in digital format or online instructions you used? I'm thinking about turning my 33 long into a frag tank in the future.

Unfortunately, no. I did a lot of reading and guesswork lol. The best thing I can say is that you can't go wrong if you go 50/50 white/blue LEDs and get up near the same total watts as you would have on a MH setup. Buy quality LEDs, space them evenly, and use lenses. But it's still pretty new to just dive into with out reading a bit first.
