Anyway to still get a discounted admission? Wasn't really interested in the lunch to begin with.
That's a shame. Why can't it just be organized without the lunch instead? Then it doesn't matter how many people signup since you won't have to reserve anything from catering. Then at least the members can still benefit from the discounted admission to the aquarium as a perk for their club membership and it would provide a good opportunity for members of the club to get together with their families.
Great idea. Perhaps the event, minus the lunch, could be rescheduled?
Saturday is normally Joe's day off.
If you can arrange to go during the week & can get a hold of him "there is a chance" he could show you behind the scenes.
There are coupons for discounts from AAA, on the website & sometimes pasted to the front page of Newsday.

Is this possible? Can one of the board members please respond?
Thanks
SEE----that's our problem!
Same thing happened @ the last dinner we had.
There is only one board member qualified to speak for aquarium events.
vinny - can we get an answer from the board member who is qualified to speak to this question? I'm sure that there are many club members who would still be interested in attending this event this year without the lunch.
Thanks
I guess I'm that board member
Quite a few events have had poor members turnout over the last few years, and some of these require a fair amount of work and and personal time on the boards end of things.
I have many personal things slated this summer and the July date was the only open weekend I had this summer. Although I like my job, I do enjoy my days off from work, and to go into work for a long day when I'm told 8 people have signed up, it makes it tough to give up a day off for so few. There was also the catering end of things and they can't staff an event with so little turnout.
Last years collecting trip had maybe 8 people?
My suggestion for this year is maybe combine the collecting trip and ffd in September?
Maybe then we'll get more to show?
So if we can pick a September date with more lead time for sign up, would folks be up for that? I do like sharing everything aquatic that the local collecting and aquarium has to offer so fingers crossed for more involvement from the club!
Joe - Thanks for responding. A September date sounds good. Can the event be setup in such a way that if there is not enough signup for the lunch it doesn't cancel the entire event? If not, maybe the lunch can be excluded from the beginning and people can be on their own for lunch? Either way, having an rsvp date and a few reminders via email to the members and on the appropriate forums should help to get people signed up earlier.
Thanks
