A lot of corals look more colorful under 20k. Do corals achieve different colors depending on k over a period of time, or does the k make you see different colors?

Yes and no, Some species do and some dont. If you google your question there is an article where a guy did an experiment on this with 3 differnt light sources with identical parameters in the tanks and found basically that some species gained more ACTUAL color under 20k but some did not. Wish I could remember the article.
20K bulbs are good for blue and purple coloration(so do the 420nm-450nm super artinics), for other colors, i think they are not really helpful, but only let u see a diferent color
