20k's on a Crocea?

I just got a Crocea and when I got him home he doesn't seem to like my Ushio 20k's. They are 250w and should be enough. He got really beat up be a hitchhiker crab, but is making a come back. Is it the spectrum or the abuse he took that is making him shy?

I would imagine that the abuse may have caused some issues. I know of several folks that keep their claims in the 20K spectrum without issue. When you say he really got beat up, what happened. How badly was mantle damaged?

It was attacked at night by a hitchhiker crab that I didn't know I had. About half of the mantle was eaten and he was getting harassed by my nasarius's cleaning up. It seems to be recovering and I can now see the "edge" of what looks like a new mantle. I know this would be tramatic, but it opens and then closes when the 20k's come on?!? All water params are good, but don't know about cal. what should these guys be kept at? Thanks for any advise. (BTW like those new clams DSR)

Pictures would really help a lot..but if the clam is healthy snails usually do not bother them..as long as it reacts to stimulus though there is a good chance of recovery.

Thank you. I am sorry to hear about your clam and the hitchhiker. Like Ohiomom said, if it is responding to stimulus then there is a chance it will make, but 1/2 a mantle is quite a bit of destruction. Nass' usually will leave a live clam alone. Does it retract the mantle when you pass your hand over the top of the tank?

Also, did you get the hitchhiker out of there? If not, you should consider putting something over the top of the clam (like very clean soda bottle half with holes cut in it). This will still allow for flow but add protection until it can regain strength.

It is still reacting and seems to be recovering. The snails were just after the little pieces of torn tissue. The clam was trying to expel them, but I have a few large Nass's. I got the hitchhiker out the next night. Had everyone at my 4th of July party shut off the lights and watch the tank, I was hilarious. Everyone thought I was crazy putting a sobe bottle in my tank, but we caught him and he is now cleaning up my fuge.

I'm thinking that is a heck of a lot of damage but as long as it still reacts, still a chance. Kind of surprised it doesn't open its mantle more though..does it ever?

It still reacts, but doesn't open up much more than that. I am thinking that it is still healing and can't extend it's mantle much more. I am trying to give it some time.
