210 build PIC INTENSE

I apologize. The creator of this thread has upset many. His abuse of marine life, despite many user attempts to reason with him, is encouraged by allowing this thread to remain open. Forum mods have only been present to remind people of the user agreement. Where are they when this guy posts a video of his overstocked, polluted tank?

And for what its worth blennymower, banning my account is futile. It takes a few seconds to change an IP address and re-register.

I wont post to this thread anymore.

I applaud you for stating your opinion, so long as it is respectful. Had you said what you first posted in the same respectful manner as you just did we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I do think that the creator of this thread should be more careful with how he takes care of his aquarium.

It's not our position as moderators to judge members. We respect our members and expect that the information provided allows them to make their own informed decisions. If anyone disagrees with someones husbandry practices they're free to post their opinions as long as the post is within the user agreement.

I take extreme offense to the Fargo comment but that's all I'll say there. Thank you to the mods for stepping in. And no, the movie was not filmed in Fargo and nobody here talks that way so take a look at the real Fargo, ND one day.

The tank is making leaps and bounds of progress so far. Give him some time to work the rest of the issues out. Everyone has made mistakes and has learned from them (or I hope learned from them) and won't make the same ones again. Yes it is bad when living creatures die from mistakes but in this hobby it can happen. Compliments on where it is looking nice while providing constructive advice on areas that you see could be improved are always welcome. Bad attitude, non-constructive advice/criticism, and random flames on the thread honestly do no good other than make people get on the defensive. So if you have advice, provide it nicely and EleganceMan can weigh in all the advice and take things as he sees fit.

 One movie and scarred for life.

Being from ND, I can't take offense from someone on a computer screen. People need to walk away here.

Eleganceman, you DO have a nice tank. Certainly a tank I right now do not have. But as a word of advice you should decrease the number of livestock in order to decrease stress because you will catch ich again. As I have.

i have never read much about the vodka dosing.....but if i ever have another algae or nitrate problem i will have to check into it. Does it help with phosphates too? Not that i have a phosphate problem, just curious.

The water did look to have a green tint, you might want to test your parameters with a second kit, for assurance. Although I can't think of any other reason it would look green. Can anybody else?

Iridescentlily,
my bumps alone the way....
three surgeonfish in to small a tank.....achilles, powder blue, powder brown.
Let to really stressed out fish and an ich outbreak....then i made a big mistake and used some fish vet medication and ended up killing hundreds in fish and corals....i say from the medication and ich.
lesson learned....
changed to rodi water....after getting a city report of my water which was not as good as i thought. 400tds reading. previous post tells more about it.

Most of my success i attribute to my refugium getting more and more established. And of course this kick %$& skimmer. MSX250.
Also how much food i am now feeding.... corals seem to love the constant feeding....and all the tang poop. lol.

Thanks for listing that EleganceMan.
I didn't know about your tds, thanks i went back and read that post.
To be honest i've not looked at your vid yet. But i have to run quickly so i thought i'd only try to cull some more information about your husbandry so that some of the experts here can help if they wish without them having to go through alot of the extraneous data.

From the list of food items you provided a couple pages back it does look like you are giving attention to feeding well. :p
I can only speak to algae, nutrient, space issues from a fish only perspective but you tell us more detail about your feeding regime EleganceMan? For instance; how much you feed per day, to whom, how you prep it. That kind of thing?
Has your feeding regime has changed since acquiring your latest fish?
I'm wondering if extra phosphates, food etc, are some reasons for the initial nutrients and algae bloom, the stress out, deaths, etc.
Additionally, i wondered if you have thought of questioning the amount of food you were feeding to help with your nutrient export.
I remember reading here on RC not too long ago that some frozen foods may have phosphates, and that the way we should prep our animal's frozen foods should change a bit if we discover this to be the case.

I just saw this quote from you Eleganceman:

"feeding time is crazy....i feed a hundred dollars worth of food".

OMG i hope you were kidding here.

Iridescentlily,
I feed all that food, blended and frozen into 1/2 inch thick flats and i put a broken off piece (size varies from three or four cubes to around six), about three times a day to keep all the fish happy and healthy.
I hold the food in my hand and they all eat right out of it.

I dont feel there is any need to change anything i am doing when all the fish are ich free and healthy!!!!
Also coral are growing nicely and there is no parameters out of range AT THE MOMENT!!! NOT TALKING ABOUT EARLIER STAGES OF THE TANK!!

one of the things i may do as far as changes is:
switch my 10,000k to 20,000k
add carbon reactor, and gfo reactors.
thanks you

Oh okay.
...So you do blend the items on that one list and freeze it.
That seems like a good way to prep their food.
Hmm....well i can't think of anything else to ask, thanks for being receptive to the questions about the food.

I want to see your tank succeed, and i can see that many others want to see your tank succeed too. I know it's hard for me to see beautiful fish decline, and deaths if it doesn't need to happen. Some feel strongly about this. You know? I believe if you try your best to keep that in mind then the questions and suggestions that others give you may be easier to hear.

He apparently cannot.

quote:
here is my two cents on why i had troubles with this tank.... I should have never had three surgeonfish in one tank....i know that was a bad idea but i really want all those fish in one tank and like to try things that not many people can do....thats what gets the hobby further. but it was a mistake not QT them first because i do beleive that that was the only reason i had anything die.... they were stressed and got ich.... and i tried some "reefsafe" ich meds out of pure stupidity....which i know killed the clams and corals....and in turn the fish too since i left them alone hoping that the meds would work like they said.... but i would be willing to bet if i did everything over again and just QTed all the fish and put them in the same order that I did....everything would be doing good. And you may get to see.... because i may even try it again in eight weeks....

He says in the first sentence that he knew he should not have three tangs in that tank but wanted them anyways, and now has three more Yellow tangs in his tank, that when full grown can be the size of LARGE DINNER PLATES. I understand that we are here to help and be patient with people but it gets very frustrating to see this go on and on and on and on. I really hate to point the finger at just him but this is his thread but this hobby is hard enough and people like this tend to give the hobby a bad name. How many times has everyone heard from others that don't have tanks"oh it must be so hard to keep, I had friend that had one once and he has always said that they are so hard, and all fish died all the time"?People that don't take advice, fail and then get out of the hobby and bad mouth it, and most of the time a person who has a good experience will tell 10 people, a person who has a bad one will tell 20. It humors him when people see what he does and get upset, and I think that is why you see the negative comments. People are much more apt to be polite when advice is taken and not blown off. I end by saying this.............when I first got in the hobby about 10 years agio or so one of the first things I learned was that I needed an RO/DI unit, not ten years after I had been in the hobby.

Side note:

Anything said outside of the Tunze board is my personal opinion and not the opinion of my employer. I cannot have two accounts per the user agreement so I must post with this user ID.

I'm sorry, but even suggesting that 3 yellow tangs is to many for a 210g is just ridiculous.
