210g ready for fish??? after 5 days???

I just tested for both ammonia and nitrite and both came to 0ppm.


should I wait any longer to add fish? or am I ready?

in the 5 days did you test at all? is there anything in the tank that would cause any ammonia buildup at all? if not then youre just testing clean water. in a cycle youll notice a rise and fall of ammonia, then nitrite, then a buildup of nitrate.

after that add your fish slowly and youll be golden.

you pulled rock from the 90 gallon right? i would not expect a cycle but it is always a good idea to wait a few days just to make sure.. i think it would be OK to start adding fish.

I did use about 100 or so pounds of cured LR and about 50lbs of dead base rock

The dead base rock, 'may', pose some issues.

Technically, if you were to use completely cured, established live rock, brand new rinsed sand (or no sand), and freshly mixed saltwater (or NSW), you could put fish in it in a matter of hours without any issues what so ever.

Generally speaking though, it's good to wait a few days, if for anything to simply let the water become crystal clear.

I agree with project reef. Just wait for a few days, run carbon making no toxic will be release by them rock.

as long you got some established live rock and no other rocks that have die-off you are ok to go - just add slowly over a week.

i did something similar and the only mistake i made was rinsing the liverock with fresh water to get rid of sand - that kiled some stuff on the LR and released ammonia into the new tank..it was only a 0.25 spike to 2 days and then everything was fine.

thanks, I also added 200lbs of fresh live pink fiji sand. I think I will add some damsels tomorrow to test the waters. I keep damsels anyway for clean up of excess food or for food if I forget to feed the fish.

It can go either way depends on the amount of dried up nasty stuff on your dead, rock I just put about 40-50lbs of dead rock in my tank i got a small diadem bloom and a couple unhappy but not dead acros, all the fish are doing fine though, but the rock was prettty clean.

Personally, I would wait a few months only to let the smaller critters get a foothold before adding any fish.

Just something to think about.
