210G Upgrade / Build (Lots of Pics)

Got the linear actuators in for the canopy lift. Here they are laying next to the linear rails. One of them had a damaged bracket, so hopefully they can ship me out a new one soon.

If all goes well, I'll be able to move the stand over to the house next week. Then it'll be time to start sealing the area under the stand, getting the wiring and plumbing started, etc.

Thanks. I'll check out your pictures.

Thanks, when you getting water in yours?

Well I did a water test the other day, no problems with the tank at all but the stand has me a little nervous. I have decided to make another one out of 2x6 and 2x4s for the framing. I just dont trust the stand as it is with that much weight on it, especially with my son playing close by.

You're just making yours more solid by adding extra 2x6 & 2x4 supports? Not a whole new stand?

My builder and I were paranoid, so I think it's probably over-done. It'll take 4 guys just to move the stand!

Nope I'm building a whole new stand, I will use the cabinet doors off of the current one. I know I'm crazy but I should've know better when I put it together. It's held with only pocket screws, no glue, and it's all 3/4" oak ply.

Wow, that's rough. Sure you can't find a way to reinforce it? Maybe if you take it apart, you can build a support structure and assemble it back around the support section to keep the outside appearance the same? You might lose a little inside space, but you'll probably have that either way...

Yea it sucks, the problem is if I want to take it apart I have to take the tank off the stand, which requires between 4-6 people who I don't have. When we initially moved the tank and put it on the stand I had paid 4 guys plus my neighbor and myself helped. This can get very costly moving the tank. If I build a new stand I can literally slide the tank off the current one right onto the new one.

PS. sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread with my problems LOL

Michael, it's funny that you say overdone. My dad said today "I think this thing could hold an elephant compared to the others at the store"

I've seen tank stands in the lfs and they scare me how theyre built. If our stands come down we should just switch to metal :spin1:

Is yours pretty heavy too? Lol. I'm gatherin the guys for the Monday move

No problem. I'd come help but it'd be a haul! I'm taking a Friday off and recruiting a bunch of friends from work to come provide muscle over lunch. I'll provide the food but that won't break the bank compared to the tank....A couple guys will hang out for the day to help with the rest of the assembly.

Yeah, those store stands scare me, too. Good luck with your move.

Michael, I was wanting to order the super reef octopus 3000 this week. I saw your has a convenient cup removal with the seal. I have heard good things... What's your take on the quality?

I bought most stuff including the skimmer early on so I've had it for awhile but not fired it up yet. Overall the build quality looks very good. I'm happy with it and we'll see how it performs. I probably should have gone one size up but this will work for now until the tank grows.
