215g Caribbean Inspired Reef

Thanks! The photo with the brooding jawfish with the mouthful of eggs was just from yesterday. I am guessing he is about halfway through since the eggs already have eyes! lol

Somebody from my reef club offered to raise the fry (he is culturing rotifers and artemia) if I manage to catch them when they are released but since the release happens at night I am not sure how good my chances are.

I am just thrilled that the jawfish are doing so well and feel comfortable enough in my system to spawn and brood. :)

Outstanding. Its hard to tell from the pictures but have you had any luck keeping tree sponges? If so what do you feel is most important to keeping them healthy?

I would assume it's food. I've only had them for a few short month so I really can't say if they are getting enough or not.

Here's a small update:
I have a larvae catcher on order because somebody offered to raise some of the jawfish fry. That will be cute to watch!

I had to get a few more anthias (which are of course not Caribbean) because one of the Bartlett's turned out to be not a Bartlett at all but rather a Dispar.
So as the others grew he stayed small and started hiding in the rockwork a lot.

I added 3 more Dispars and now he's happy and out and about with his 3 buddies.

Here's a pic from yesterday:

Oh and I sold the ATI Sunpower and got an AI SOL SuperBlue so I can really tweak the colors now. I love the light and shadow areas it creates and the glimmer lines.
The sunrise and sunset is so gentle and I have a high noon setting where it gets a little more intense during the middle of the day. LOVE that new light.

At sunset the mandarins (again not Caribbean lol) do their little spawning dance and it's just gorgoeus like little butterflies. :)

Thanks for all the lovely comments on the tank by the way. I am definitely enjoying this tank a lot!

Thanks :)
I just got 4 modules of the AI. Seems to be plenty especially since I have the large open area in the middle for the jawfish :)

Inspiring system - I also love the Yellowhead jawfish. Your substrate size particles is that for the Jawfish & do they need that size substrate?

Thanks :)
I went with 6 jawfish but I really think 4 would have been ideal.
My foot print is 24" by 72" with the large open sand area in the middle but rocks on the sides. Because the rocks take up quite a bit of space I think the jawfish are closer together than they'd like at times

Here's a little video from today. This is the male that gets most of the eggs. He's been very busy rearranging the den so I am guessing he's getting ready for another round of babies/eggs.
You can see the mix of substrate there: pretty small and particles and lots of shells

Fantastic video (thanks so much) - quick question, can you tell the difference between male & female (if I was going to buy two or three etc)?

Check MOFIB to see if they have an explanation on sex differences. Honestly I can't tell a difference. I bought them in pairs from Sealifeinc.net
They collect them in pairs so you know you get 1 boy 1 girl.
I have not found them to be particularly faithful though. All of my females seem to deposit their eggs with the one favorite male. He just makes the best den and takes good care of the eggs...
