Hello everyone, I currently have a 72"x24"x30" fish only tank. The current residents are: Volitan lionfish(4"-5"), blue jaw trigger(4"-5"), niger trigger(3"), mexican dragon eel(~20"), and a few chromis for movement. I will be getting a radiata lionfish within this upcoming week. My question is what are some great aggressive to semi-aggressive fish that could be added to this tank. Thanks

Sounds like a nice tank. How many more fish do you want to add?
I'm not sure you have room for more than two...

Here are some of my favorites:

Australian harlequin tuskfish

Mimic tang (aka chocolate tang - beautiful finnage, subtle but very nice adult coloration)

One of the large angels such as an emperor

Some of the hogfish that don't get too huge

There are LOTS of Angels & Tangs you could add

Tangs .. Naso, Blond Naso, Yellow, Purple, Sohal, Poweder Blue, Blue, BLue Hep are some of my favorite tangs

Angels Emperor & Queen are 2 of my favorites both of which I have in my 260g

Aren't queen angels a bit aggressive, or am I mixing that up with queen trigger?

There ARE a lot of nice tangs, I just happen to like the mimics because of their reasonable size, and IME, mellow temperament. Heps and Nasos are wonderful too, but since they get pretty good sized, they might limit whatever else he could add.

I'd say one large angel, maybe two, would max it out... There are a lot of nice ones.

viggen, could you list all the fish in your 260?

well I would prefer not to add any tangs simply because they are rather prone to ich. With the lineup that I have(including the upcoming radiata lion) how many more fish could i add?

with another lion i would add anymore.

Tangs are no more prone to ich than other fish. tangs need alot of swim room and people chuck them in small tanks they get stressed they get ich and sometimes die. any fish will do this

Queen angels can have a attitude just like the emperor, passer & a few other angels. When/if I can get a bigger tank I will add some piuffers though :) Queen triggers are a LOT meaner.

Some tangs are prone to ich others are not as prone. Powder Blue, Hep are both VERY sensitive & can get ich but tangs like yellow, purple, sohal, naso, etc are VERY hardy :)

My fish include

Hawian trigger 10+in
Queen angel 7 in
Emperor angel 8 in
blue tang 8 in - he's going to find a temporary new hom :(
blue hep tang 6 in
harlequin tusk 7 iin
3 stripe damsel 2-3 in (the old guy in the tank, 9+yrs old)

my blue tang killed a blonde naso (7 in), naso (4 in), sohal (5 in) within the last month, these were all new fish. My emperor & queen baraly made it through the agression of the blue tang. Thus he's going to find a new home for a while & will be added back to the tank after the naso/sohal are established in the tank.

so am I safe adding lets say an emperor and a naso tang with the list that i have or will that be overstocking my tank?

i meant to say earlier i wouldnt add anymore.
keep it on the safe side it allows you more lean way with water changes. you dont want to have to do constent work to your tank unlesss thats your bag

I would think you would be fine adding those fish

however I think it also depends on the amount of rock-->hiding places in your tank

there are a lot of rocks in my tank :)

I have the same sized tank (not up yet). I was planning for about 7 good sized fish, including a large angel, a pair of blue throat triggers and a harlequin tusk.

I would say you could probably add a coulple more fish. IMO I think a 6' tank is a little to small for a naso tang that is fully grown, they get pretty big, but I do think it would work for a while if you started with a smaller one.

I agree, that is why I recommended a smaller tang. I think larger angels like the emperor are pushing it too, but that is such a wonderful fish, that's the big one I'd keep.

Emperor angel! I think the best looking fish you can get! They are hardy and not too aggressive either if they are the only angel in the tank!

I also have a 225 and mine is the centerpiece of my tank. Not to mention he has a great personality and is intelligent too!

I agree with the emperor angle I love mine I also think a Blue faced angle would be really nice (although not quite as hardy). Be sure and get an emperior that has started the change into its adult state they will sometimes not change at all....Another fish is some type of Wrasse...I like my Red Coris its beautiful!

I would have to say that i am a big fan of the harlequin tusk, I had one for a while and he was too much for my reef tank so i sold him to a friend.

Here is what I have in my 210 gallon tank:
2 coral cat sharks (Breeding pair soon)
1 Hawiian Dragon Moray
2 Zebra Morays
2 Golden Tail Morays
2 Volitan Lions
1 Blue tang
2 large sergant majors
4 Stars
3 small damsels

Attached to this system is a 90 gallon tank:
1 Japaneese Dragon Moray
1 Large sergant major

and a 55 Gallon Peacock Mantis shrimp tank

All share the same sump. Eheim 2260 filter, TurboFlotor skimmer and about 300 lbs of live rock in all 3 tanks. Main pump is a Mag12 and the pump that feeds the other 2 tanks is a Mag 7. There is also a small eheim 2026 on the 2 smaller tanks that pulls water from one and dump into the other.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting a harlequin tusk. I really want something with some nice colors but that arent too expensive and hardy.

fishman, that is a lot of fish. What are your water changes like?
