225 Tank build thread

Lol! Thats actually pretty small for a 1K Mh bulb. I have seen some that are the size of a football. The smaller size will definitely make the reflectors more effective.

No ballasts till next week:confused: I just talked to PFO, they have been waiting for parts to come in to custom build the ballasts. They are scheduled to be shipped on Friday this week and should be in early next week, like Tuesday or Wednesday.:(

good work there! where did u get that eyelet for the bulkhead?

LFS in Utah, others have tried to contact him to no avail... Guess this was the one think I got lucky on.

Eric,
Did you get all of the electrical move around to accommodate the 1K’s? This extra week could end up being a good thing to make sure that everything is ready for the 1K’s. These 1K ballasts are being custom built just for you. So that you can be the second member of the local 1K club. And unless some else beats me to it I will get to hurry up wait for mine to be custom built so that I can be the third member of the 1K club……. I am putting three of these bad boys in.

I don't think you need to worry Scott, I think we are going to be a small club, in fact I thought I'd be the only member:D

Not yet... Shouldn't take long, just have to unplug and replug things into the powerstrips. How long are the power cords on these things though? I'll need them to be close to 8ft.

I think 8' sounds right also. make sure your power strip can handle the load, They pull around 9 amps a piece I think

Each ballast will go directly into one of these
aqualight_power_centerSM.jpg
which is rated to 1875W and each timer will be plugged into a GFI on the wall (reason I need 8')... Everything else will go through an American DJ Power Management box.

OK I was worried you were doing both on one of those style timer's.

Are you getting scared yet? I went back and forth several times while I waited for the lights to come in, wondering if I made a mistake in ordering 1K lights!
In the end I am satisfied, but I'll tell you what they are very intense, I am having issues with certain corals still. I think the key is keeping all the acros the highest (obviously) the montis lower and blastos lower or shaded.
Amazingly enough my frogspawn and hammer from Murf are loving it and right under a halide!!!!!! go figure.
The clams all seem fine, some acros are partially bleached but I just move them around as needed.

Anyway, having a tank with lights so intense that it hurts your eyes to look at some of the bright green corals is pretty cool.:smokin:

LOL, I still want to see those lights on person. Eric have you posted any pics of your power distrobution center yet? I went back three pages and did not see any. Looking good for sure though. Have you added a clean up crew?

Hey Dan, no I haven't taken any pics, it's just two AM DJ units attached to the first step. Clean up crew is in place and doing a sweet job! The sand is almost diatom free and the rock and tank is spotless! Coraline has started to spot on the sides and back wall and can't wait for some more light!!!

That is great news. I am starting to overcome some hair algae in my tank. I love long spined urchins. Renee still really wants to see your tank.
