230 Ohio reef tank

Thanks Marinelife!

New update to the frag tank, replaced the white eggcrate with black egg grate. Started to notice algae build up on the white. Really like the black better as it shows the frags much better. Cant wait to get some better lights on the frag system. Just torn on the so many LED options out there. (Kessil, AI, Ecotech etc..)

Best bet would be to get one of the new, less expensive PAR meters. That way you could measure your display tank where you plan to put the frags and then light your frag tank to match. That would help ensure the best transition when the time comes.

Thanks for the tips Dave. Will definitely keep that in consideration.

I'm really trying so hard to hold out on purchasing my own PAR meter because I am waiting for the day that they are able to hook up directly into Iphone or Droids with a downloadable App. They are so close now with the BioTek USB version, but unfortunately that only hooks up to the MAC and PC. My problem with that is that my MAC is upstairs and to big to haul downstairs close to the aquarium. Till then, will just have to borrow the local clubs or friends meter. :)

Well the new light came in (AI Prime) So far it's seems pretty good but will definitely need at least 3 more. Programming was a little tricky as some of the settings somehow reset themselves between manual and auto? Took a bit but I somehow figured it out.

Thanks Wayne!

Shot these videos with a pair of Ray Bans and my Iphone today. Held them infront of my Iphone and used them as a filter. Its amazing the colors you see with a pair of sunglasses. :) Best if viewed in HD

What?! This is a terrific idea! I'm gonna give this a try. My phone pics are the worst... it would be great to be able to actually see the colors instead of simply a blue mess. :0) Thanks!

Trying to imbed this video the BBC put out on Coral Gardening. I have to share with the community. Would love to get a frags from there. I previously posted the link but 2nd time is a charm. Enjoy!

Just ordered an APEX feeder. Was searching the net for DIY feeder ring and found this on another Reefcentral tread (Brilliant idea!) Decided to build one of these to help catch my flakes and pellets. Made simply from frag cup, syringe plunger & spare suction cup (Super glued to to syringe). Works like a charm and easily adjusts up and down to the water height. I have a eurobrace so modified it it little so that it sticks to the bottom side of the brace.

Decided to upgrade my previous feeder ring I made. Had some scrap acylic 3/8 rods and some scrap 3/8 sheets laying around. This one is awsome and just rests on my eurobrace. It actually balances perfectly with no need to place anything on top.

Montly update and photo's. Tank is doing well. Removed the Reefbrite XHO from my main tank over to my frag tank and works great. Didnt see much of a difference or color difference in the main tank since I had taken it off.

Tank survived a few weeks out of town. Really seems to be taking off. Had to deal with some red bugs but nipped it in the bud. Problem has been since solved.

Couple more shots taken this morning. Cleaned up the frag tank and did some consolidation. Ready to start grooming the main tank back a bit.
