2300G Cylinder - Preview

Hi all,

Why do things on house builds always go slower than one expects? Now 've just got to find a way to move it about 1 1/2 inches. Will probably involve a block and tackle.

They are all getting paid by the hour!

You could jack it up slightly and insert a large ball bearing or even a marble, lower and nudge around. Then jack up and remove ball bearing.

Good idea, but use a lot of marbles to avoid a huge point load one just one spot:) I'd bet you can just slide it with enough oomph. Not like the stand is going to move;)

Thanks gents! Good ideas all round. If its good enough for the ancient egytians, its good enough for me!

I might try a field hockey ball.

looking fantastic Mark, any strange looks from the Highton neighbours?

Ah, yes... when we were putting in the underground tank, people were speculating that it was a bomb shelter. Folks have no idea what the aquarium is. One of our elderly neighbors is convinced we are building a private hospital!

angle grinder? Why? Use a torch place some leather over the tank to keep heat away. Cut through each in seconds.

Thanks for the tip Damascus, but we tend to stick with what we know... I am a wood worker... I can build furniture so nicely jointed that in dry run assembling it holds together without clamps or glue, but torches and welders scare me...I haven't used an oxy torch since year 9 'shop (I guess I was 15). At least an angle grinder reminds me of a circular saw!:fun5:

hi Diablo,
this is looking amazing cant wait till its done. im just wondering who built this for you and if its a private job (are you doing it all youself?), has anyone helped develope your plans along the way? also are you sourcing livestock from all over or just a limited amount of stores/store?
thanks

Perhaps use a pipe or rod to move the tank instead of marbles. Easier to insert/remove, balance and direct. I've heard of guys using ice to slide tanks around. It melts when you're done.

Now ice sounds like a good idea!

When I picked up my 3/4" glass 375 I used 2" scd 80 PVC pipe lengths to roll it on. Even though it weighs darn near 1,200 pounds, I could get it rolling by myself stopping it was another issue entirely!

Seeing that tank on the stand is a tease!

Been following for a while and glad to see everything taking shape. Can't wait to see it once finished. (bet you can't either)

Yes the Egyptians (No, it was aliens silly ) used a small rock under a big strong rock, not under acrylic that may or not take that kind of point loading. IMO, I wouldnt risk it. Heck use a bunch and leave them there for a rotating tank.:)

I like the pipes too. Used that alot moving safes, playhouses, spas, etc.

I have seen huge granite steps slid into place on ice then melted for a perfect placement. Neat.

Yeah thats what my kids say too
I know you were heading over there with your video camera hoping to win $10K from AFV :D

:D Hey, I would bet dollars to donuts it wouldn't overload, but I understand the concern. The fact is, just using a bottle jack would probably give enough lift to nudge it into place.

Ha ha... a man being crushed by an out of control 2000 lb tank! Given the choice, I think I'll take the whack in the nuts...

I guess Mel Brooks was right... Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die.

If I can figure a way to use ice, its a superb idea. Thanks Robvdv.

Upon rereading my above post, it could easily be misinterpreted. I was actually quite amused by the exchange. I hope no offence was taken.

Not by me! :D I enjoy figuring out problems like that. I used to call in all my buddies to move something, but now take pride in getting it done with little or no outside help. Sometimes the hardest length is that last "nudge". Another method would be an air bag. This would give you more lift area and more flexibility to nudge the tank.
