2300G Cylinder - Preview

First class build. I love Australia. Been there twice. Would love to move there. Very pretty country. Nice house also.

Wow...the wood throughout the house is absolutely fantastic. Really impressive attention to EVERY single detail.

That trim on the aquarium is phenomenal...what a remarkable build!

Am I allowed to say that's freakin' badass?
:fun2:

I'm pretty happy now with how it looks. The ply was glued with contact adhesive to a substrate of 1/8" MDF, which was in turn nailed down with flat head nails.

Thank you all for the comments. Its very encouraging... now, if only I could get water into that sucker! Busy doing form work for the concrete sump/refugium/crypto tank.

I know you're not giving into the pressure of filling the tank. Doing it right takes times and patience. In the long run all your hard work will be admired by us afar and by you everytime you look at your tank.

Words fail me...I am in awe of what you have built here...and I don't just mean the tank. Your house is incredible in every detail and I just love all the native timber highlights throughout.

Well done, mate...I look forward to a Better Homes & Gardens special, real soon :D

If you don't mind disclosing- what is the cost of something of this level and how many sq ft is the lot?

Inspirational build!

Thanks Ghengis.

I'm rather partial to the gecko on the rock myself :lol2:

The timber selection was very important to me. We have some beautiful timbers... I wanted to ensure a bit of "local content"

The lot is 1,800m2 (19,375 sq ft by my calculation). The house without the garage is ~250m2 (2,690 sq ft). A handy size, but not huge.

As to the cost here's the rough breakdown:
Aquarium and 25m lap-pool: ~$300K
Environmental stuff (5kW PV, solar hot water, 17K Gal underground rainwater tank): ~$100K
Landscaping: ~$50K
House, including garage, decking, etc: ~$800K

A nice house with big garden and fishtank... mucho. Being in debt for the rest of my life... priceless

Thanks Ghengis.

As long as your happy that's all that matters nothing else:)

Is there a House of the Month thread here, on RC?

Because all other houses stand 0 chance when this thing is done.

LMAO...Think of it as a work of art. I'm sure the Aussie banks will feel the same way! :D

I am going to be the Same way when I do my dream tank take my time and do it right. Called go slow and do it right the first time.

Thanks Ghengis.

Many reefers are in debt for life because of this reef addiction. Your house is really a dream house for many reefers.

Diablo, can really feels the excitement just looking at the photos! :)

Btw, what multi-room audio system did you purchase? I was looking at the SONOS for a while but decided not to get it for now. :P

Cambridge Audio Incognito. It distributes 6 audio sources to up to 8 points over Cat-5 (ethernet) cable. At each point you can chose from the sources and control the volume.

I'm not sure that the banks mind too much about the artistic credentials of the project, so long as we pay our pound of flesh! :D

Diablo,
I have been interested in your tank build for the seemingly years it's been going on. I was wondering if you could talk about the intended use of a crypto tanks. Specifically the benefits, how you arrived at the size of yours and how that relates to the size of your system I.e( percentage of tank size), and how it operates on day to day( things such as flow through it and the like including what you are going to stock it with)

I am very interested in implementing as many segments of the the reef as I think that this will go a long way to improving the success of a system.

I know it's been said many times already by many people, but this is an amazing build (tank and house)! I just spent a lot of time going through the whole thing. Thanks very much for taking the time to share it with the rest of us. Cheers.
