afex,
What other fish do you have in the tank with it? Where did you purchase the fish? (I'm just easts of Houston)

currently just 2 misbar clowns and a lawnmower blenny

picked it up at village tropical depot near 45 south @ the beltway

I may give one of them a try for my bryopsis problem. I've yet to find anything that will eat it. I'm currently testing out a lawnmower blenny in my QT with some bryopsis in it. So far, he's not touching the stuff. I know the rabbit would eventually outgrow my 55, but I can just sell it locally if it ends my bryopsis problem.

The only creature that I know will eat bryopsis is a lettuce nudibranch.

I have a doliatus also and it took care of a small turf algae area when I first got him and he is still going great. Loves spirulina flakes. It's in with a LMB, mandrain, fairy wrasse, and I added a Red Sea sailfin not long ago. All do fine with each other.

Well, you guys convinced me, so I've got one of these guys hanging out in my QT. He's pretty freaked out right now actually, there are a couple other fish in there with him...I hope he doesn't go berserk and stab them all!

when mine was adjusting he went pretty crazy too. would shake like he was having spasms. but he chilled out fairly quickly.

do you think one would be ok in a 65? I might have to get one of these

Nope, I really wouldn't suggest one in anything smaller than about twice that size. You could get by with a small one for a little while but only if you have intentions of upgrading in the near future.

Well I picked up a similar fish today at a LFS. It's a Blue Lined Rabbitfish (Siganus puellus I believe). It looks very similar to the Scribbled, so hopefully it's got a similar diet. Within minutes of adding to my QT it started pecking at the infestation of bubble algae, though I don't know that he actually ate any. I haven't seen him touch the bryopsis in there yet.

I know that this fish is too large for my 55, but my intention is to sell him locally once he either decimates my bryopsis, or (much more likely) I found out that he won't touch bryopsis.

Well, this guy is just an incredibly skittish fish. From the moment they started trying to catch him at the LFS, he turned all splotchy....he's been sitting in my QT near the bottom pretty much not moving except to run into one of the PVC pieces lying around, and he's still pretty splotchy looking. Its been two days so I'm a bit concerned.

I would definitely offer him some nori and brine shrimp.

My guy will do tricks for treats.

I had one for about 6-8 months...great fish! when I got it, it was around 2.5-3"...and when I just donated it to a local school where the FMAS meets, it was close to 5" They Grow VERY fast and will eat ANYTHING you put in the tank! I loved this fish they grow too fast for my tank!

You may be on to something...I put some nori in, which he appeared to ignore, but when I went back later it was gone. I don't think the flame hawk or midas blenny care for the stuff...

so sounds like nobody experiences these fishes eating corals (sps, zoo, brain corals...) yet?
I'm thinking aobut getting this fish to get rid of the dictoya algea..

update from my end: no nipping at corals (sps/frogspawn) and no dictoya left at all. he's moved onto the other algeas in my tank and even goes for the flake food during feeding time.

great fish so far.

My Foxface Lo eats like a pig. He even mows down on chaeto when it wanders into the display. I haven't seen him nibbling on any coral. Just at algae around and in between new frags.

Yeah, beautiful!

Are they known to eat other kinds of algae too?

i believe they will also eat valonia aka bubble algae. rabbit fish and fox face are generally known for it.

DOLIATUS RABBITFISH

Just my luck .. I added one to my tank last week and all he eats is meat. He doesn't even consider eating algae. :-(
