and my dictyota problem is almost all gone! this guy is an eating machine.

i had never seen that kind of algae before, but it came in with a frag i got. it was spreading like wildfire even tho my params were good and i run a fuge + phosban.

useful and not too bad to look at either :D

What species of rabbitfish is that? I almost bought one the other day, but I was worried about eventual size, the fact that some say they will start grazing on coral after the algae is gone, etc. Great looking fish though.

that is a Siganus Doliatus. Absolutely awesome at eating nuissance algaes. I had a hybrid Doliatus/Virgatus, and he ate all of my bryopsis, and taught my Purple Tang to eat it, too!

I have some funky hair algae that is choking out my candycanes, and nothing else. I am not sure what it is, maybe derbasia? My tangs got rid of all the caulerpa, but won't touch this stuff. I wonder if this guy would do it? I get a huge dark green hair algae afro on these candycanes if I don't prune it regularly.

And none of you that have one have had a problem with it eating zoanthids or anything else that you don't want it eating?

i'm going to keep a lookout, but since i pretty much only keep SPS i'm not too worried about him picking at my corals.

either way i'm gonna make sure to keep him well fed with the macro i grow in my fuge :D

My guy lives in a frag tank with a bunch of zoas and some SPS. He has never touched any yet. He loves the yuck brown algae, nori, mysis and blood worms.

If he got hungry, well who knows.

afex,
What other fish do you have in the tank with it? Where did you purchase the fish? (I'm just easts of Houston)

I may give one of them a try for my bryopsis problem. I've yet to find anything that will eat it. I'm currently testing out a lawnmower blenny in my QT with some bryopsis in it. So far, he's not touching the stuff. I know the rabbit would eventually outgrow my 55, but I can just sell it locally if it ends my bryopsis problem.
