24 JBJ DX Lighting Upgrade?

I am thinking about updating the stock lighting on my 24 DX jbj nano-cube. The lighting currently includes (2) 50/50 power compact fluorescent lamps. I am thinking about getting new hood mod. from nanotuners.com. - (70w HQI + 36w PC). I really want to do this, but i am reading about how the HQI and how it may and some heat to my water temp. Does anyone out there have this mod or a mod that will add something comparable? Thanks-Dave

I have their 108W PC upgraded hood with 1 10K and 2 50/50's.

Love the lighting, really good craftsmanship. Upgraded fans were a little loud but you can get a variable transformer to turn them down if your in the room, I am just used to it now though.

I have a monti cap under mine right now, color is crummy, if you want things like monit caps, digitata and birdsnest you could probably get away with some SPS with the 70W, odds are the coloration wouldn't be the best though. 150 HQI is the best bet if you can afford it, the upgraded fans would also do wonders to cut on heat issues 9It does on mine anyway).

What would be a good alternative to getting a hood mod?

Why not the 4.25 nanotuners retrofit kit with the 4 bulbs?? I am considering that one for myself. I have only read good things about that. It is not MH I know but the heat issues are all addressed and it won't run as hot. Regards.

I bet you could get away with some SPS under it, things like monti caps, digitata, birdsnest, green slimmer would probably work. I bet things like acro's would look kinda blah.

2 other factors with SPS is water quality (zero nitrate & phosphate and perfect alk and CA levels at all times) and flow, lots of flow.
