240 cube stand underway.

That stand looks great! What are you cutting the moulding with? Just a cheap miter box and flat back saw or do you have something else. Also are you using a finish or trim nail gun or nailing by hand. I love to make stands but I have never made anything that nice.

That's really a work of art. I'm going to forward this to my hubby. He's designing a TV console for the basement, and your trim-work is an inspiration!!!!! Can't wait to see it stained!!!

Wow, that stand is truly an inspiration to me. I only hope I can do work close to as nice as that! Thanks for all of the nice pictures. The stand is built like a tank. I wonder what is heavier, your tank empty or the stand. LOL. :D

ya all that trim looks awsome. around how much cash have you put into it already? i think i spent a real good amount on my trim alone and i know for shure you are useing more than i did.

Finally, all done! I will order the doors tomorrow and hopefully have them by next week. They will be birch and I'll stain them the same red mahogany. This turned out pretty nice.
All total, I have around $300 in materials and about 15 hours labor in this stand. That includes the 2x4's, all trim, stain, sealer and laquer.
Here's the finished product:

Thanks guys! The pics really don't do the stand justice. The dark stain doesn't let the camera pick up on the details very well.
It will look significantly different once I get the doors on.
I have a local cabinet maker that does a great job and I hope to get them within a week or so. I don't have the tools to make nice raise panel doors.
The tank itself will be ready in a week, unless any unforeseen circumstances arise.
I'll start another thread once I get the stand and tank in place.
Thanks again for all the compliments. They make all the hard work and time worth while. This was a lot of fun, mostly, and I'm glad I did it.
I will seal the inside sometime this week.
Someone asked me about tools. I do have a power miter saw, a small table saw, a pocket hole jig, and a finish nail gun that I used to put all this together. But, as I said, I'm not a professional carpenter, I just dabble in it every now and then. I built this stand from a vision in my head, no plans, only dimensions I knew I needed to stay at for the tank, and it turned out just as I hoped.

Thanks guys. I've been thinking that if I had a dedicated fish room behind this tank, and didn't need to bottom for the sump and such, it would have been cool to keep the stand open uderneath, ie no doors, and remove the trim connecting the columns and base plywood. Basically leaving it to look like a free standing table of sorts with four massive legs. I'm sure it would support the weight.
Thanks again for all the compliments.

Just had to chime in, thats a very nice stand you built. I am planning something very similar for a cube I am soon to under take. Yours is truly inspirational. Its nice to see an elegant break from the normal "box" =).

Looking forward to reading more on your tank bro!

Thanks scolymia11111! I've always tried to think 'outside the box' so to speak, pun intended :)
I just received some pics of the cube going together so I'm going to start a new thread showing the tanks fabrication. Look for the new thread later today.
