240+g tank project

The tracks are made by Stanley Hardware and I bought them at a local store called The Andersons, but Lowes can get them. The material on the light rack is a type of pvc sheet that you can get at an acrylic supplier.

Damn Chris,

Your set up is SICK! My friend is getting married on the 20th in Columbus and I thought that I'd be in town. I was going to see about swinging by, but the tickets are 400 bucks from Dallas (Still cheaper than a clam LOL). It will cost my wife and me over a grand, so looks like we're not going. Anyway, it was nice meeting you at MACNA. I hope to make it back to Columbus sometime soon!?!

I can't believe how friggin HUGE your colonies are. How long have you had them? I need to get a bigger Ca reactor. I really hope that once I get my frag tank set up, I'll have something remotely close to what you have. Damn; If only I knew you guys in 2000:mad: .

Catch you later!

SERVO, SERVO, SERVO :) Chris and I live east of Columbus... If I recall Chris is about 5-7 miles east of me... Would like to meet up with you sometime...

Very nice cward, I love them, your tank is awesome :) That LT plate is HUGE !!!

noob question, but what is a LT plate?

Whoa! Simply amazing....

Like Sea World in your living room.

Very nice, "inspiring" is the word.

Someday, I hope to achieve something like that.

What are the avg monthly electrical bills to run an operations like that (fish room, main tank, back up equipment)?

Enjoy your most awesome setup, I'm in awe

Thank you very much. I think the electric is about $75 per month. I'm fortunate to have a low electricity cost here in Ohio.

I haven't updated this thread in a while, so I thought I would show you a skimmer that Geo built for me. It's 12"X48" with a Sequence Dart needle wheel. We were very surprised to discover that the Dart pump would not handle more than 12"-13" of head pressure after adding the needle wheel impeller, so we had to add a linear air pump to feed air thru the venturi. The air pump is rated at about 45 lpm and I'll soon be adding an air pump rated at 65 lpm.
Here's a picture of the skimmer body.

Here's a picture of the box that the skimmer body is mounted to.

Here's the collection cup after 4 days.

Here's a picture of the bubble size using a straight pin for comparison.

It's a custom job. I think George just wanted to see how difficult it really was to modify the stock Dart impeller into a needle wheel. It took him about three hours:lol:
He's been bench testing the pump for about two months and the needle wheel impeller has held together fine.

No, he took the stock impeller and cut it down to a flat disc. Then he drilled three rows of holes around it and added the 1/8" pins.

Hey cward,

Do you have a picture of that monster before put it on operation?
How much cost you? It is something like I am looking for.

Great Tank !!! I will borrow some ideas for my design if you don´t mind :)

I don't have any pictures of it before we hooked it up, but I'm going to to move it around tomorrow and hard plumb it in it's final spot, so I'll take some pictures. As far as cost, you might want to contact GEO for a price.

I've added a Tunze 6200 and 6100 with a multi controller. I just couldn't seem to get rid of the dead spots in the corners using just the closed loop.
