What a minute guys.... There is some confusing I believe.

Eric, Weatherson's tank isn't all that young. It must be over 1.5 years old now, right? I'd have to go to Page 1 of this thread to see when it all started.

MeuserReef, this is Joseph's tank. I'm just a fan. He's the wizard behind the magic. :)

Nope. Send your nomination to Skipper in a PM or via the Nominate banner (currently in the annoucement section).

Wow, time is flying by... This and Melev's tank are two of the ones that have caused me to go broke recently... Thanks... I think:rolleyes:

I wanna visit this reef in person one day. :)

I did today, again. Not to rub it in 'er nothin'.

I took a coworker with me, as we were headed home carpooling. He sat silently for an hour (I don't think he blinked, either) while Weatherson and I tried out my new camera on his tank. When we hit the road, my coworker wouldn't shut up. It's great.

So, Weatherson... do we have any pics of all the new growth, or maybe a side-by-side comparison of your Hamilton 14k vs. Phoenix 14k? I forgot to ask while I was there, and this seems like a good place to share that.

I did just switch out my overdue Hamilton DE 250 MH bulbs to Phoenix 14K Kelvin DE bulbs. The look is brighter with a tad bit more blue. So far, I am liking the look and the corals seem to be pleased as well.

Photos? Yep, I've got photos. ;) Here are a few to wet your appetite. Although, I have to shoot some more to get a decent full-tank shot. I'm just not pleased with how the shots of recent came out. I'll keep trying though.

Aside form the lighting change, I really appreciate the fact that there are no little Red Bugs crawling all over my SPS and their polyps are out and color is returning. I did a single treatment which so far seems to have eliminated them. This, and along with the help of my three Pipefish. So... here are some recent tank shots for you to hopefully enjoy.

Joseph.

Joseph,
Would you mind commenting on the types and estimated numbers of clean up crew in your tank? Also, how many acropora colonies/frags do you have in the tank? Beautiful pics, BTW.

Matt

tang_man_montreal: Thanks for the vote of confidence. ;)

Matt: Thanks and the cleanup crew is many but here's a quick list. There are two Serpent stars, three Linkia stars, four cucumber slugs, three voracious, heavy-weight Tangs, and numerous snails and crabs. I pulled out approximately 40 hermits prior to doing the Red Bug treatment which I added back after. Then, I just added (last week) a new supplemental cleanup crew from Reeftopia. I get all my crews from them and replenish between once every six months and a year. This time, I picked up their "The Total Reef Care Special #3". Follow the link above for inclusions and quantities.

Joseph,

I have a question about your newly created kalk reactor.
I know you used 6" acrylic but how tall is the reactor? I have a 6"x40" long acrylic tube and wondered if there was an advantage to making a taller reactor. (It would be for a 90 gallon tank).

Thanks

Steve

Steve: The reaction chamber area is 19" tall not including the funnel shape of the bottom or the dome shape of the top. The height of the reaction chamber is more critical to the diameter of the cylinder and the stirring pump used, if you utilize the later. You'll want a height that provides enough space so when the calcium hydroxide is mixed, the milky white mixture (heavy calcium hydroxide powder content) won't get high enough to reach the output at the top. Probably no less than 16" for a 6" diameter unit to be safe.

OK... just had to share this shot I took today. I think it's trying to communicate. ;)

And this one to keep the theme going. I call this one "Get a room!". :D

 In the Photography forum, I started a thread called "Themed Images" and I think your last image fits that thread nicely.

Awesome, well thought out, very informative, and damn confusing too lol, man I hope my setup goes as well and turns out as nice when its done, hats off to you weatherson.

Also if I run into any problems may I ask you for help at little or no out of pocket cost to me? I so want to get the new tank we have setup, but all in due time, and if not for waiting a while I wouldnt get to read up on threads like this to get some good ideas.

Anyhow thanks for the super thread and I will try to do a pictorial thread of mine when I finally get to start, I guess I could take pics of the tank, pumps, and oceanmotions, but I want it to look like its on the way up, not a scrap heap lol.

Good luck with your reefs and you got my vote for the TOTM.

LOL ok those are pretty funny. didnt' realize you have 3 linka in there. my wife loves those but i keep telling her i won't get one
