Dooohhh!

Yes, I did look at the avatar too quickly!! Funny how we associate avatars with people. Can you ask him to stop using it! (just kidding!).

Best of luck ridding those buggers.

Joseph,
Are Squamous clams better suited for tanks with Halides, or more intense lighting? I really love those colors, but wouldn't want to place one in my tank if it couldn't thrive under T5 lighting. Any thoughts? I have heard that Gigas are the least sensitive to low light as compared to other species, but I could be mistaken.

I changed it so we can't get mixed up anymore. :D

McGinnis: "Are Squamous clams better suited for tanks with Halides, or more intense lighting?" More intense than MH? You mean sunlight? ;) Seriously, a good rule of thumb is that the larger clams require less light but... they are all better suited under metal halide lights. Perhaps a clam located higher in the tank would survive under fluorescent but I'd still suggest metal halides. But that's just me and I am no expert.

Bigred: Thanks. It's bad enough everyone thinks we are twins. :D

Thanks Joseph for the information. I really love the colors/pattern that clams have, and I have had great success with my little Maxima, but I agree that lighting intensity can really be the difference between success and failure with any of the Giant clams.

Keep us updated with pictures, really love looking at them!

this is what that clam will look like.. mine is like 7-8 " now..

btw my clams sit on the bottom of a 30" deep tank with only 250 watt halides over it.. and the lights hang 10-12" over the tank

yznhmr: I could be wrong but I believe yours is the "blue rimmed" version and the one I acquired is a true blue version. It's actually blue across its whole mantle.

MyMonkey: Thank you very much... X2. ;)

A friend mentioned to me that I needed to post a new full tank shot. So... here it is following a recent shot taken about three months earlier for growth reference. I have moved a couple corals but the majority have remained in their original positions. I did have to remove a couple smaller pieces for the AEFW's too but the remainder are doing well.

Here's the shot from February...

And the shot from a couple of days ago...

Thank you all. I guess I need to clean those end panels, huh? ;)

You know, I was going to make some smart-arse comment about that, as your glass is always sparkling clean in pics, but then I looked at my tank and realized I can barely see through the front glass, let alone the sides :)

Awesome as always... are you still looking for more corals or are you just going to let what you have grow in

You know I remeber when this thread started, and I looked at your rockwork and in all honesty hated your layout. But now with it all grown in, I can see your foresight. It has to be one of the most natural aquascapes I've seen

Interesting thought, Derek. Hey Weatherson, might you be in the mood to post your earliest full tank shot with your most recent? That would be one very interesting comparison.

Thanks Bax.

Derek,
No, I have no plans to add any more corals at this point. It's getting tight in there as it is. ;) I've always had the philosophy that a tank looks better with full colonies of decent corals compared to a tank full of small, the latest and greatest, "limited edition" corals. I know there's plenty of coral "collectors" out there and more power to them but it's just not my cup of tea.

jwedehase,
How far would you like to go back? Something like...

:D

Or?...

Probably closer to and easier to see the beginnings (March of '04)...

And the latest again...
