i ghost fed the tank 2 days ahead heavily as i knew i was going to place a large bio load in.
i will check for ammonia tomorrow. in case its high which i doubt it i have 300gal of salt water in a tote waiting to do water change.
Greetings.. Just finished reading the whole thread....Wow.. thanks for all of the great info!
I am researching my new 375 ..
I know why the fish went into the QT tanks so you could remove the defunked live rock... but why did you do Hypo & meds? was there an Ich outbreak?
No ich. I have a sticky on newbie forum Guide to setup qt and another one how to remove ich by copper and hypo. So I decided to do experiment with hypo with Prazipro together which I had not practiced before.
Also I sold my big hippo that was a bully for a smaller size thus I had to cure it as I treat all tangs as if they do have ich. I didnt do copper as I had some fish that wouldnt tolerate copper
So there were many reasons.
For most part i have been testing different meds and combination of treatments for last 8 yrs or so.
Lots of people in my other guides ask for combination of treatments and thus i decided to give it a try. I did hyposalinity with prazipro then i also tried formalin ms with hypo and ran all treatments simultaneously.
This was a very good opportunity as i had many different verities of fish and different species all in qt at same time and i could experiment with them all at the same time.
lol yes i picked up this tote for $40. holds 300gals and originally had Colloidal silica in it for glass factories. i was told by chemists in the chemistry section that a quick rinse with regular water will make it safe. not a bad thing to have on hand for large tanks.
after few days of monitoring parameters i was confident enough to place few frags in the frag tank. Main tank will need some time as its going through its initial phases of diatoms and algae as my nitrates will reduce over time due to both biopellets and sulfur denitrators need cycle time of about 2 months. phos are under 0.05.
Even though frag tank and main tank are same body of water and are connected to same sump but due to no sand and rock it doesnt show any algae or diatoms.
Thus i am hoping frags will last out the initial phase. also while i have them in frag tank i am subjecting them to light acclimation period.
Using AI new controller i limit the intensities to 30% as starting point and over 2 month it will increase to max out at 75%.
Reason for 75% max is as frag tank and its AI Vega is very close to water line and frag tank doesnt have but 10" height compared to 24" on main.
I lent out my par meter to a fellow reefer and is on its way back monday. i will have more detailed par information then. till then enjoy the pics.
