240L Divider in wall Build

240 Gal Through wall Build, Need some help and Ideas!

I want this to be Super easy to Maintain (Automatic Everything i can get)
and Very Low Power! Im not scared of doing solar tubes either if you think They will work in St Louis


So this is the plan 240G From Glass Cages

Aquarium: 240 Long 96 x 24 x 25 Tall for $919
Starphire on FRONT & REAR panel for $368
Reef-ready addition: 2 overflow(s) with 2 holes/o.v. for $150
4 bulkheads for $60
Acrylic covers for $70



 
Ok I got the tank ordered should be here first week in Feb! Have a lot to do still, That wall is a load bearing wall so I need to put a header in there next, Will post pictures of the progress.Next im going to have to start looking at sumps

Has anyone used the seamless sumps by custom aquariums or any recommendations?

How come I don't see alot of people using external skimmers?
 
Got a little done today. Built temp working platform over the stairs and a temp wall to support the load bearing wall between the garage and living room. The wall on the inside is about 10ft so the tank will take up about the whole wall
Tearing up the new house its not even a year old yet!

Going to get some MR Drywall and the FRP tomorrow and some more supplies. May also tackle the header too


After i get the opening done ill be starting the stand




 
Worked on it a little more over the weekend. Got the wall back up have to size the opening on the inside of the house for the drywall to hide the edges of the tank, going to try and finish that up today and throw down some drywall tape and mud going to do 2 coats and then Im going to cover that wall in stone. that should wrap of the inside mess.

I Have no idea what equipment i have to run yet or how it all gets connected to the controller. I thinking apex but haven't really looked to far into that yet. I quickly looked up how the apex controls everything and it looks like it can control it through a power bar, So I ran 4 independent circuits up to the canopy that I can tie into that bar to shut off and on the lights and what not (Was think 4 should be plenty Daytime lights and nighttime lights and a circuit for power heads and a wave maker or Whatever I may need) I also Ran 4 Cat6 runs to the canopy as well in case the controller can control something that way also or a camera up top in there too.

And I ran an outlet under the tank for lighting (This will most likely be more storage for the garage under there)







 
inished up the drywall and stand the last two days, Ive ordered the stone for inside the house. Going to try and wrap the top part of the wall today with FRP where the canopy will be and finish the electrical up top. Then I guess im starting the sump room next. I've spent about 3500 just on the tank, stand, and wall and a few materials for the sump room. The sump room will take me awhile so that should give me sometime to get some more money for this project :( Tank will be here Feb 6 or 7th

Im putting in a sink in the garage and one in the sump room. Im planning on putting a floor drain in the sump room along FRP panels

I need to start researching, the most automated way and what I need to do Automatic water changes, and what kind of space i need for all that in the room down stairs



 
I think you may regret not having top access from the front. If it's not too late I suggest you put in an access panel there.

I cant have access from the house/Living room its over the stairs, and then Id have to also worry about sealing it in. The top/front of the canopy in the garage will open
 
I have to agree with Dave 100%. My tank was setup with no front access (see my pic) and it was a pain for maintenance.
 
Maybe with a 24" deep tank it wont be so bad. Mine was 30" deep. I see what you mean by the stairs. You have to do what you have to do. Great build BTW.

Is there any how to's or threads that are new updated/ with the latest tech in Mixing and ATO and AWC?
Theirs so much to learn I think I need to figure that out before I frame up the sump room
Im thinking 2 brute cans and a 150GPD 6 stage with monitors Id also like everthing to tie into the Apex if possible
 
You would do far better reading the books from Mr. Saltwater Tank. They are the most up-to-date. Trying to cobble together coherent information from forums and magazine articles is fraught with many dangers. Do yourself a favour and educate yourself properly. As you noted, there is just too much information you need up front in order to make informed decisions.

Yes, I've been watching his videos and have been researching still have lots of you tube to watch and read up. I Did get the FRP cut and glued yesterday

I have this tank... from glasscages... only difference is mine is single overflow on one end... used as a room divider FOWLR... 75g diy sump.. my lids are glass not acrylic... amazing how much the price has changed since I bought mine 5 yrs ago... but im mostly happy with it... if you havent ordered it yet i'd suggest having them drill a third hole in the overflows... gives you more options for syphon styles.. I was messaging dave about options for changing my drain pipe in order to make it silent... its pretty quiet as long as the lids are on but i'm thinking of changing lighting and want to take the lids off completely but I dont want to hear anything... third hole will allow you to do a bean animal overflow (absolutely quiet)... im researching durso now to see how much that could benefit me....
 
looking at your pics I can see we have a couple of the same hobbies.. fish keeping and RC.. I race 1/8 scale buggy and truggy

Aw nice, I just got them for the kids the other day, nuts its been kinda cold, They already tore one up, Have a new Axle and bumper that I need to install, And upgrade to the Lipo those are just some entry level Redcats 1/10 EXP Volcano's

Heres a few new pics

Got the Canopy area of the wall wrapped in FRP Installed the outlets, 4 Separate runs/Circuts That will be plugged into the Apex energy bar in the Sump room and 4 cat6 runs.

Also got the floor drain installed and sink drain and threw alittle concert on the floor to try and slope towards the drain.

Started laying out my outlets in the sump room, Going to Paint the floor today if its ready or move the Tv over in the garage since its hanging into the tank







 
I got the electrical installed in the sump room - no pics yet
Next I need to run the pex and then i can start the drywall - I think I may have a 180 Im going to use for a sump (going to be close the the room is 72" as is the tank)

Rented a lift made moving the 240 easy with just two people (luckily it didn't have to go in the house)






Also got the stone panels in and got them up last night, still have a few pieces left and some trim work


 
I had to slow down a little trying to save a little money, But I have started buying some equipment
I Have 2 BRS Doser 1.1ml
BRS 6 Stage RODI 150GPD
2 55 White Vertical Tanks for Mixing

I have Also Finished up the plumbing and tested for the tank down to the room
Put in some Insulation and Drywall Yesterday and Started to mud it.

Hopefully this week

Need to get some doors
Install Vent for Exhaust Fan
Install Ceiling Track - Going Drop ceiling in this room only for access
Put up my FRP 4ft around room
Paint floor
