i run 3 250w 14k phoenix bulbs in lumenarc mini reflectors. My oldest clams are about a year old. A couple months ago i switched to MH only. Is my bulb choice ok or would my clams be better if i switch to a 10k bulb and us 03 vho's. My clams grow good but i think the color could be more intense on my Crocea's. and my Squamosa.
My tank is 30" deep.

I have 6 clams
2 gold Maxima
2 purple/green Crocea
1 brown white Derasa
1 green Squamosa

Your bulbs should be fine.I run a 150watt Phoniex 14k and my tank is around 16 inches deep. The light is also 8 inches off the water and my crocea and maxima are on the very bottom and growing like crazy!

I used the exact bulb you are using to grow 2 baby maximas to 4 and 6 inches in less than 2 years. Your problem might be using a 250 watt bulb on a 30" deep tank. 30" tanks should have 400 watt MH. Also it depends on where your clams are positioned I would move them in the first 1/2 of the tank and you should be fine.

Do my DE bulbs put out more par then SE on an E ballest?

Also when it come to par that can be related to the streanth of the light right. Higher the color Temp usually less par. With clams dose the temp of the bulb matter more than par?

if i have a 10K bulb and a 14k bulb with the same par output or very close to the same what would be better for the clam!

I'm kind of curious to.
I have a mixed reef with 10k and 14k bulbs. My clams hate the 10k side of the tank, which does have about a 60% higher PAR value (if I remember right)
Two Croceas were 30" under 10k's and hated it. I move them to the 14k side, and can put them closer to the lights and they love it.
So is it too much par, or the "k" value? Colors definitely better under 14k.
