Ok they say the 3rd time is the charm!!!!!!!!! This time i will not respond to any rude or just plain negative post. I will update about my 250 gallon tank and my 250 gallon tank only. I am gonna add lots of pics here today to show where i started when i got the tank til now. For anyone who was here when i first started the tank they would know all the info but if you didnt hear about it well here we go. About two months ago I was looking on CL and i found a 250 Gallon fish tank a woman was trying to get rid of. She said it was too big and she couldnt move it. I bought it for $200!!!!!!!!! I was stunned she gave me a knockout deal. I then had a 100 gallon tank and four others (BUT I WILL SKIP THAT DONT WANT TO START ANYMORE PROBLEMS!!!!!!) it took me and 3 other friends to get the tank in my backroom/office at home. Over the course of these two months I had been changing and adding things with this tank. When i recieved the tank it was plain jane lol. A oak color that i hated. I made plans to paint the tank black and add other things such as skimmer ....etc. The person who had this tank had to be confused building it LOl. Its a custom built tank but it was drilled for two big overflows. well i dont know what happened but the person no longer wanted to use the overflows and then just sealed them off at the top =( Then as i got home i began to notice the stand was just plain weird. I had plans for a 55 gallon sump but due to how small the doors are i couldnt fit one under there. I was hot. at first i just put a 10 gallon underneath it was easy to move around and setup my plumbing but then i said the heck with this and got a 20g long. Im still looking for a 40 long but until then this 20 will have to do. Since all this i have been slowly adding DIY Live rock and adding fish. I cycled my tank in a week due to the fact i sued the 100 gallons of water from my old tanka nd added a new 150 gallons to the tank. As of now i have 8 fish and about 9 corals/frags. I added clowns first and waited two weeks before i added anything else. I then bought the yellow tang and blue hippo the same day and the next day i got a purple goby. I have a sand starfish and a blue fiji starfish. I also have a lunar wrasse a Naso tang with streamers and a blue jaw trigger fish. I admit i got kinda fish happy once my water cycled but i did pretty good maintaing the levels. Nitites went up a tad bit after adding the naso but i didnt panic. I added a little prime not alot but just a little and let the tank relax for a week everything went back to normal. since i have done a 15 gallon water change and water levels are still perfect. I had a metal halide pendant that i was using for a short bit of time but i sold it and bought other things for my tank. i coukdnt just use the one pendant i am gonnna save up for a fixture that will cover the whole tank.. Right now I have 4 t5 bulbs going and 2 power compacts I am running a mixture of actinics 10,000ks and 18,000ks. Everything is sprouting and doing good except for my flowerpot coral which has been stressed since the move from my other tank. I will keep everyone posted if you have any questions and arent rude i will respond timely and to my best of knowledge. oh and btw i have tons of snails and small blue leg herits to keep ank clean aside from sand being sturred up from time to time tank is staying really clean. =)

There are a couple threads out and about, but if you missed them here goes. Petco has a dollar a gallon sale going now. So your 40 gal sump will only cost you $40. Check your measurements and then check out the sizes of tanks they have available, local even had a 38, 40, 46 bow, and the 55. Good luck on the tank and lets see those fish!

Looking really good so far...would recommend a much larger sump and if you can afford it as it was already stated that Petco is having a very good sale on tanks. I think a 40 would be ideal for you.....keep up the pics as I have learned it keeps people's interest in your thread...

Alright, derrick. Keep up with the pics, man, and you should be able to stop any rude remarks! Good luck, and I wish you well, believe it or not :).

Sorry guys about delayed pics one of my really good friends wife called me last night he was trying something on his tank a brace at the tp was broken he tried to use some tool to push out on the tank to replace it but it broke the whole backwall!!!!! It was the craziest thing i ever seen. 230 gallons of water spilled all over the floor!!!!. That sucked i hope i never see that fate. But anyways here are more pics

I just bought a 3 bulb hamilton metal halide fixture. comes with three 250 watt bulbs and 2 t12 HO bulb slots. The fixture is 5 feet long but its ok it will coover almost all the ground on my tank. But iill tell you this I bet noone can guess how much i paid??????? $20!!!!!!! I was swept off my feet the fixture didnt come with bulbs thats the only downsideso me and the guy went to my LFS to check everything out and sure enough all three fired up with no problem. Now i didnt check the t12 bulbs but i dont even care about them i still have my t5s taht are on the tank now. I will buy all new actinics for them and run 14ks on all my halides!!!!! Man im so excited. Im not at home now so cant post pics but here are some links. I just ordered some 250watt metal halide bulbs off eby for $12 a piece.

And the time to look after it, of course.

hehe, I know what you mean... But he got it all in there! Good luck with the build, and even more luck ignoring all the haters! I hope it turns out nice for you.

thanks scott i really appreciate it. Trust me this will turn out great my DIY rock is already turning colors starting to look more natural im really excited

Mane that's wassup! The tank is looking good and I can't believe you got the fixture for the low low! Make me wanna be back in GA don't find no cheap deals like that in Vegas.

Since all this i have been slowly adding DIY Live rock and adding fish. I cycled my tank in a week due to the fact i sued the 100 gallons of water from my old tanka nd added a new 150 gallons to the tank.

I'm not trying to start crap here, but this is way too quick to cycle a tank. It doesn't matter what water you add to the tank, as it's not the water that cycles, it's the rock. You're adding DIY live rock directly to your DT, but DIY rock can take months to cure, not a week. On top of that it appears you added about a dozen fish in the span of 1 week. I have a bad feeling that this isn't going to last long before something bad happens if you don't slow down with this setup.
