i hate sponges they absorb too much water id be topping off daily

I guess I am confused about what sponge you are using that absorbs water and makes you top-off daily. Are you keeping the sponge in the tank and then wringing it out? Is the sponge somehow only absorbing fresh, or are you topping off with salt water?

awwww dang it yea ive been using it it keeps the water clear and everything looking good i hate sponges they absorb too much water id be topping off daily =( thanks for telling me man i guess ill take it out when i get home

please keep in mind people derrik has 5 yrs of experiance in this hobby and knows what he is doing.

your upset because i have had my tank running for longer than a month and your telling me im lying but im now?????? Ok sorry mthomp i didnt mean to upset or offend you take care and god bless you my friend

no derrik i find it amazing that your livestock is still alive to be perfectly honest. i find it amazing you have so much experiance in this hobby you felt it okay to add 8 some fish to a less then 1 month old tank. i find it incredible you knew to add a sandsifting starfish, a blue linka star fish to your completly mature tank., a naso tang along with other tangs knowing how well they will work together. To be completely honest i think your just amazing. In fact i cant wait till you decide to add your great white shark since your husbandry is shall we say, better then most.

=) Thanks buddy but again like i said thank you for all the comments tank is still older than one month and i would lovge for you to watch the youtube vid im a make tonight so you can see everything =) God bless you my friend

cant wait. btw why do you top off with saltwater? this is something i have never considered since when the water evaporates, the salt stays. I always thought that if i added saltwater to top off it would also raise my salinity.

Hello,

So I am fairly new to the forums, kind of new to the hobby and sadly Derric's(spelling?) plywood build was one of the first ones I stumbled across. I had never even imagined that was possible, but I guess people do build them. The impression that I had gotten from that thread mostly everyone was trying to give valid conclusive advise to Derric. But it seemed like to me that he would "quote" peoples comments and say a couple of sentences and say LOL and then go and completely ignore what they said or would do the opposite. Then move along to his second thread the 250 gal build and Derric's know it all attitude was extremely concerning. There was this one instance where another reefer pointed out a leak on his tank from one of his pictures and derric was like no its not a leak and guess what it turned out to be a leak. I mean he would ask questions and when given advise would disregrad it. I in no way shape or form am an expert even though I have been in the hobby for over 2 years. I have learned a lot from reading this forum in the past two months than I did from acutally being in the hobby for 2 years. There was stuff that I was doing wrong that I had idea. My point is that everyone on here is giving you solid advise. For example the diy rock doesn't leech like right away, once it starts to cure it will leech little amounts or it might be big it all depends. So yea you that rock can't be 2 months if even that. So whats the big rush, its almost like you are trying to get people to flame you. You don't come on a forum and say hey I going to cycle my tank in a week. I am not saying you can't, but is that the right way to, I highly doubt it. Its cruelty to the animals you put in that tank. Why not let you tank get established the proper way. Instead of a cheap palor trick. I think it probably would be best if you read some literature and acutally comprehended what it said. So I am not trying to be rude and I have nothing against you asking questions, but at least be considerate of these people who are taking the time to help you.

Well said nehemeth! Another one of my favorites was the "LMFAO" that was commonly thrown out to solid advice. I get so much entertainment out of reading these threads. Haven't missed one yet.

i would lovge for you to watch the youtube vid im a make tonight so you can see everything

I think this says "I would love for you to watch the Youtube video I'm about to make tonight, so you can see everything".

I can't wait for the video! Although, what I would really like to see is a video of how healthy the livestock is in a couple of months. That is the video I am interested in.

Make sure to get some close shots of all the livestock, and equipment, please. Thanks.

I get so much entertainment out of reading these threads. Haven't missed one yet.

+1

Btw seriously is it that hard? Huh huh huh??????? I said it when i started writing for this forum im not being negative and i dont want negative post you guys keep being rude i make comments like lmfao because when you say i cant cycle my tank in a week and then i do cycle it in a week its like????????? Yea im a laught because your wrong and yor basically telling me im an idiot and my fish will dies but i havent and wont have a lost. My clowns have been here for a month and look at them they are going strong?????? I told you guys i dont want trouble and im not feeding into your negative comments its sad this is reef central and i feel like this is darn jerry springer......... Man whatever im just gonna keep posting if your with me thanks if your not have a good life and god bless

Please try to make positive comments

Where was any negativity in that? I said I am entertained by your threads and I have repeatedly told you that I wish you the best of luck and that I'm sure your tank will eventually turn out decent. I won't post anymore on your threads but will certainly be along to read as I recieve many laughs and much entertainment from them. Again, good luck with everything.

Once again, let me reiterate. You are completely missing the point, which at this point I think it has to be on purpose, because there is no way you can be that dense. I never said you can't cycle a tank in a week, I just said that probably is not the proper way to go about it. I really feel sorry for your animals. It is one thing for you to be cruel to them unknowingly due to your own ignorance, but completely different because you choose to ignore the warnings of others. Why couldn't you just use patience and maybe let your tank cycle for a month without adding anything. You have no idea what it is that your adding to your tank with that crap your putting in and what adverse results/effects that it will have on your tank. Yea your fish might "seem" happy, but how do you know that. You aren't in this for the right reasons, your greedy and thats the simple honest truth. Because you only care about what this tank means to you and getting it set up and look all nice and "pretty" as fast as possible, with disregrad to the animal life that you are inflicting pain upon. I get into a hobby to feel like I accomplised something with my own hard work and ingenuity. Cutting corners with not get you the quailty workmanship that you desire. Before you say that you are not cutting corners; you are buddy. Stuff that cycles a tank in a week equals cutting corners. You didn't do it the right way, you did it the cheap way. Once again I am not trying to be rude, and I don't think that I am rude. I am honest though.
