250 Gallon Starphire SPS tank

Soon it will be ready. Soon. :)
I still have to reglue the 2 baffles in your old sump. Any tips on removing them? I was able to get one side of each lose, but the other seems to be tight enough to the glass I can't fit my blade behind it.

Are you using a razor blade, or an Olfa blade. A razor blade is thinner. Sometimes you have to push the blade in as far as you can and then move it an inch and a half over and repeat. Get the easiest sides done first and then you can wiggle the glass around to help you out.

Give me a phone call if you have any more problems.

Just one of those little razor blades from a paint scraper..

I'll keep at it; I got one side done so I should be able to wiggle the pane a bit now and do the other..

I assume they are glass baffles. I know you want to reuse them, but when I had to remove glass baffles from my sump I found that only way was to break them gently (so that you crack the glass and not produce a ton of shards) at the corners and remove them 1 piece at a time.

I was actually able to slide a razor blade in and gently cut them out. Resiliconed them in and they're working great.

Cool, maybe you're just more patient than I am...

 I did take a while to cut them out. I almost wasn't able to because 2 were pretty close together and I had a tough time reaching between them..

I always thought they were close together, hopefully you can space them a bit better now.

I think they turned out alright; plenty of room to reach between them. My silicone job was a bit sloppy, but it worked...

The 1 1/4" 'dow corning 795 bulkheads' work great too.

Oh and I've got 3 snails that survived the move living in a container floating in my rock cooking bin. I'm surprised they made it. :)

The new sump is up and running!

My temp is now averaging between 79 & 81 with no heaters or fans or chillers! I am loving it! I will run heaters and fans just to keep things in the proper range, but I am very happy having a tank that holds its desired temp w/o outside influence!

One weird problem though. The PH of my set-up was 8.1, pretty good I thought.

After I turned on the pumps and started mixing the sump water with the tank water it dropped to 6.6. I was just about speechless! I re-calibrated my PH probe and it was within .02! I checked vinegar, lower then 3, checked my kalk above 11. It seems like a probe or monitor malfunction, but I just cannot figure it out. I would imagine everything in my tank would be dead, but everything is doing just fine.

??????????????????????

The sump looks good now!

I guess you owe me for three snails now! (I think I lost about 60 down the drain the other day:rolleyes: )

Any bubbles due to the new sump? If so, maybe that could be throwing the reading off a little bit?

No, no bubbles. "a little bit" would not be 1.5 points.

Today it is up to 6.7.

Alk 11
Calcium 375
magnesium >1300
polyps all out, good color
clams all doing well
fish all doing well

I even checked to see if an LED burned out on the display, NOPE!

Thanks! I think the baffles worked out pretty well. Got the sump all cleaned up too; not that it'll remain clean once I am up and running. You'll have to post some pics of your new sump in operation...

 Your mag 2 had a bit of a rattle to it when I went to put it in my water change pail; I gave it a shake and another not so live cerinth fell out.

Some how I also found an ant swimming in the sump when I cleaned it out. Not sure how he got in there..

Can you try it without the power supply just to get a comparison reading? I know some people have had issues with the powered connection, and since you just changed things, perhaps there is some interference now that you didn't have in the past.
