250g Zoanthid Dominated Canadian Reef System

Nudibranch buffet.

May I ask what your method is when introducing a new zoa colony?
Ever have any zoa-related issues? rot? pox? nudi?

*I wish none of these things on you by the way. Definitely my fav. aquarium ever.

I'm from Montreal. Where do you get your zoas from? I've struggled to find a local shop that can get these nicer colonies - and it's even harder to find an online vendor to ship to Canada...

Very cool tank, I'm a huge fan of zoas and you have a beautiful collection!
Desideria omg your zoos are beautiful!! I love Zoos too I wish I had space for such a huge beautiful tank like yours.
JPhan1 Wow! Very nice tank and excellent pics.
kayaking2 Really nice tank. You don't see many tanks dominated by zoa's. Great shots.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

I do a thorough visual inspection acclimate and if I'm scared of anything I will do a quick Coral RX dip, the key to success with this lazy-faire method is the thorough visual inspection.

I've had an incident of nuddies before but my diligent team of wrasses has kept the tank nudi free for the most part. No Pox, Spiders or snails and as I'm sure any zoa owner will attest "Mystery" death does happen from bacterial & fungal infections.

Most of colonies/ frags I get are from local vendors in Calgary, I tend to make the rounds fairly often... I think you can call me a cherry picker :hmm3:.

man I love zoas and i love how they come in so many colors. I think my next tank is going to be all zoa. Spectacular Tank!
Thanks for the complement! I've been addicted for 4 years now and I feel as if I have only collected the tip of the iceberg, one of the more diverse corals out there torture.

Loved your previous build and will definitely stay tuned on this one. Just watched the video you took - wow you feed a lot. Your skimmer and mangroves are going to be busy :)

Question - Do you think running something like biopellets (solid vodka dosing) would influence your zoa success?

Your zoas looking amazing. Did you buy frags and let them grow or did you buy in colonies. Do you feed them?

A large variety of them came from colonies as you don't see many frags for sale in Calgary. That being said I prefer frags for the growth factor, many of my nicest pieces came in as frags and have grown with the system over the years.

Sometimes I feel we feed a tad much but I'm a strong believer a healthy reef involves healthy fish and a significant amount of fish poop!

I ran Biopellets before and in all honesty I don't think they were for me, I find there are to many little things that can go wrong while running them to justify there use. In addition to that I know a few people who have personally had bleaching events directly after running them so this tank will be primarily filtered by mangroves, macro algae, water changes, the remote DSB and a ton of healthy liverock.

Well its been a while since I've updated sooo

The last couple months have been a little choppy, unfortunately we lost the Achilles at around the month point to a really intense case of ich. None of the other fish were affected but we ended up purchasing a cleaner wrasse, luckily he loves to eat brine. On top of that MY FREAKING CANDY APPLE FRAG MELTED :mad2:... gah, I don't think I will be purchasing single polyp frags in the future.

Oddly all 4 of our mandarins have disappeared, I'm not sure what to attribute this too as there is an abundance of microfauna around the tank. I hope there isn't something evil lurking in the liverock.

After snagging a few new zoa rocks we decided to reaquascape, took a few quick shots afterwords so I will grab some nicer ones tomorrow.

Mangroves are loving the 400W HPS just as much as the coral is!

This is definitely one beautiful tank.
I love your collection of zoas! i hope one day to be able to do something like this.
My dream is to cover the floor of the tank with zoas!

awesome looking tank...thanks for sharing....your electric bill must be sky high....you need to start fragging those zoas to help pay for the electric bills.
