250g Zoanthid Dominated Canadian Reef System

When you start your build you should shoot me the link, always interested in a monster like that!

Here you go:

Hope you subscribe and follow along cause I could use all the suggestions you have along the way. I've been working on a three tier stand all weekend and hopefully make some other great progress in the coming weeks.

***I don't want to hijack your thread but how deep is the DSB in your mangrove? Lights? Water flow through it? I'm considering doing something similar in my build. I'm just getting the prop/grow out tank, sump, fuges, and QT system up and running and starting to establish before I get the ~450 gallon DT. I think for the fuges I'd like to do a 90 gallon with just live rock and a muddy bed, then get another 75 gallon off CL and make it half mangrove/half chaeto with a DSB on both sides. (You can post the answers in my thread so I don't take over this one:)

Simply stunning... now I need to convince dear hubby to get rid of his clams so that I have more area available for zoas & palys

Very nice tank. Keep up the good work. Where abouts are you in canada? I would love to see this in person.

Eric

For some reason unknown to me I live in -25°C Calgary (-13°F for all of you wonderful people living in Florida & Cali right now :headwally:). Thanks for the comment!

This tank is amazing! I love all the colors and diversity from the zoa's.

I love zoas. Very well done. Outstanding tank & great pictures!

Thanks everyone, it's been a bit of a rocky ride over the last little while. Oddly enough the SPS in my tank are doing amazing yet I have had a large amount of die off from certain zoanthid colonies. Frustrating to see but I'm more than used to it by now, some of these morphs are far from a begginer coral.

Great looking tank, and your pics are fantastic! It's nice to see a Zoa-dominated tank once in a while. Thanks for sharing.

Great pics on the update. Can you answer my questions from post #101 earlier inquiried about in regards to the mangroves?!

Gah sorry Dustin entirely forgot about that :hmm5:, just leaving the house now I will shoot you a nice little write up when I'm back home.

The sand bed varies in places but is around 10-12" depth, in addition to picking up a pistol shrimp/ goby pair I removed the paint layer from the back glass today and found some shady characters.

The tank itself is fed from my displays so I'm not sure on an exact amount for water turn over, I would guess around 1200GPH so roughly around 20X per hour. Lighting is a single 400W HPS 11000k bulb, this will be changed to LED's eventually.

Good call on the mangroves/cheato, very natural way to lower excess tank nutrients. If your using mangroves make sure you are keeping an eye on your Mg levels as they strip it from the water.

Your very welcome folks, always a pleasure.

Nice set up

As a zoas lover, this tank never cease to amaze me! :) Also, the leopard wrasse is very nice!

Well why thank you!!

such an inspiration as I mentioned in my build.
great work

Haha, us Canadian reefers have to stick together! Have any updates on your build? Would like to see some shots with all the lights on! Any aspirations for a zoa garden?

Out with the clunker Coralife in with more radions!
I think I'm in love :D

The hanging situation still needs some work as they are sitting all funky at the moment. Either we will build a frame for the 6 or get additional mounting kits for the 3 we ghetto hung.

Everything is so bright and shiny now !
