25g Lagoon upgrade

Also curious to see how your nem does. I have a 30 shallow and I've been going back and forth for a while.

The nem is happy and actively eating whenever I drop some food on him. He hasn't moved from where I placed him either. I have a kessil 150 and he seems to be plenty happy with the light he is receiving in the corner of my tank

Got a new fish. Mccosker Wrasse

he is still a bit shy but eating like a champ. Also the fuge basket makes it a million times easier for me to trim my chaeto

You are playing a dangerous game with just putting fish into the tank. Be weary that should you get something in the tank you need to be fishless for 2.5 months...

Yeah. I really should QT but this is the last fish for my tank and he was very healthy when I bought. Fingers crossed

There is no way you could determine health when you purchased it. Unless the fish went through a robust treatment QT process there is a high chance of a disease that you just put in your tank.

Nothing you can do about it now and I hope you have no bouts of ich or other disease....

Upgraded my lighting! I was getting shadowing with my kessil so I got the t5 retrofit kit from bulk reef supply and finally have it up above my tank

Been battling bubble algae and other algae issues in the tank. The coral and fish are thriving so I was too hesitant to change much. Ended up getting a minimax desktop reactor to help lower phosphates slowly since wc simply were not keeping up. Nitrates are around 2ppm and staying.

New FTS as well

Very nice upgrade in lighting. If you haven't done this yet, make sure you put on the wide optics -- It makes a HUGE difference.

Also, you've done the right thing hanging the Radion higher above the tank like that. I really think the RMS needs to be adjustable from 8 - 12" tall..

Thanks! I believe it's already got the wide optics and I agree. It's almost 16" off the water right now and I'm still getting mid 200s par in mid section of tank. Only 65% intensity too!

That sounds pretty good! I think a large reason people get too much shadowing from their LED's is that they are too close to the water.

Here's a picture of the BRS staff PAR levels in their SPS dominant tanks. Sorry, the picture is huge and a little blurry because I took this while video was playing... I should retake it, it's really useful i've linked this like a dozen times

No shadowing is inherent for the single point light source. You are taking light from a 6 inch disk and spreading it across 30 inches. Since it is a single point of origin you get shadowing. Yes raising it "expands" that cone of origin slightly but you would need to raise it way farther then it would be practical to get rid of shadowing from a single light source.

This is why for LED if you want to get rid of shadows you double, triple, or even in some instances quadruple the LEDs the manufactorer claims. Read up in some of the LED threads and you will see these issues over and over again.

Take a small dixey cup and a flashlight to more easily see the issues if you need. The cup will have nasty shadowing on the inner side and bottom until the flashlight is either just about overhead or way too high to matter anymore...

Have I mentioned I miss my nano?

Anyways, you'll regret ever buying that GSP when it starts to encrust over and strangle out your other corals.
