270 Gallon SPS tank for JBNY

Is that one 20a circuit breaker for each quad outlet? (Therefore, 40 total amps for the fish room?) :)

It looks great! Vynil is the greatest thing for water spills! But watch out for slippery floors, though. ;)

Yeah, each quad is a 20A circuit. I am going to run the lights and powerheads in the main tank upstairs off of this power as well. That way the whole tank setup is on it's own isolated power. I doubt I will ever need anywhere near this much electricity. but I felt if I was going through the effort to put in one new circuit, now would be a good time to put in a redundant one.

Are you going to use GFI outlets? I have a very poor experience with mine they always trip when is a thunder storms around hear.
You think will be a problem with the metal tubes and boxes for the outlets ? I know they are galvanized but mine always get rusted after they get some salt spray on them.

I am not going to use GFI outlets. Like you I've had really bad luck with them tripping for no apparent reason. With the last tank, after I had a GFI trip for a while and couldn't find a reason. I just replaced it with a new GFI. After doing that 3 times, I abandoned the GFI and went with a normal plug. Those GFIs always seemed to trip when I was away on some trip someplace.

I'm not sure about the pipe. They had already run the conduit before I thought of that. I think I am going to try and do something to protect them. Not sure what though. :).

thats coming together real nice, what are you going to be using for the walls?

Thanks. I am just planning on priming and painting them. I will probably use a mold resistant bathroom type of primer and paint. I've never had humidity problems in the past with the old setup. Summers are humid in the Northeast so I had to have a dehumidifier running in the summer. But in the winter, I still had to run a whole house humidifier or else the humidity (including the basement) would never go above 15%.

Hey Joe you could wrap them in pipe insulation like you get at home depot or lowes. You could even do some colorful electrical tape or duct tape wrapping. :D

I was able to do a water test on the tank this weekend, using tap water. No leaks!!

Just starting out, things are looking good.

Half way there.

All full. I stoped the water about 1/8" from the overflows.

I don't know how this is the first time I've seen this thread, but awesome job! I can't wait to see the finished stand, the blueprints look like its going to be really nice looking. Work faster! Get everything finished now:) I'm subscribing to this one for sure!

Looking good Joe, That sump Room looks much better!!! The before picture of your sump room looks like my spare bedroom LOL.

oh I forgot to ask you, How do you like the wavy seas, are you still planning on using two of them on your returns? I was thinking of using them as well. When they lose power does the controller reset making the nozzle turn 360 degrees? Thanks.

very clean, on your drawer slides what the manufacture? also when are you going to start plumbing.

Joe,

That looks great! Is this tank going to be full blown sps or mixed reef? Do you still have all your beautiful corals from your previous setup?

Thanks for the encouraging words guys.

This thing is really coming together now, do you plan on painting/vinyl the background?

I am going to just use a dark blue or black background. The standard ones they sell at the LFS. I had one on my old tank and it worked fine.

So far I have only played with them a little. So far I think I like them better than the sea swirls I used to have. They do reset when they lose power but I think they just stay stationary and not rotate 360. But you can pick a cheap UPS for $39 when they go on sale that I don;t think it is too much of a big deal.

Thanks, I am going to do 95% SPS. I might put a few other corals in the tank, but right now I don't really have plans for it.

Most of my old corals are being baby sat for my by a few fellow reefers.

crab0000 Yep those are them. They are pretty slick.

Yesterday I went out looking for sinks for the sump room. I got lucky at the Habitat for Humanity surplus store. I was able to pick up a stainless steal double sink with the faucet and all the plumbing attached, a formica top, and a cabinet base all for $160. Score!!! :D

Are you going to use a bilge sump for the sink drain? or you have a good downflow for a regular drain.
