270 Gallon SPS tank for JBNY

Joe, that looks great. Your tank is just so stunning, being all clean and new. Makes me want to start over just for that new tank smell. :D

Did you drill any holes in the rock so you could use the pegging method to put corals anywhere you wish?

place the thinest acrylic pc on the surface will also do the job.

I do that for small shots of coral. I figure to get a shot of the whole tank from above it's better to just shut down the tank.

I have not. I talked about it last week with a friend who had done a lot if it. I need a few more pieces of rock that I am going to pick up later this week. So I'll see.

Ah, the rock is in! Can't wait for my new tank to experience the same! ;)

BTW, speaking of holes in the rockwork, how big of holes are we talking here? 1/2" or so? Or larger holes for frag plugs? That's a good idea...

Great work!

Is the play sand you used araginite based? Or Sillica based?

Still following along :)

Look nice Joe....I really like the layout:)

I bet you are happy to finally get the rock in. I know in my case these things always take a lot longer than I think they will.

Thanks guys!

Yeah I am happy to finally get the rock in. I am going to let the tank settle for a few weeks before I start putting anything in though. All the rock was already sitting in holding tanks for me so it's fully cured. But I feel the tank will benefit in the long run if I give the whole tank some time to settle in and build up a nice population of pods and other live stuff before I start putting fish and corals in it.

hawaiianwargod I am going to use 250watt MH XM10K lights with icecap ballasts. The same as I did with the old tank. I am going to use luminarc reflectors this time to get the extra spread, so it will cover the 36" area I need this time around.

bleedingthoughtWhen I am talking about gaps in the rock work I am taking about keeping things very open. Leaving spaces for the coral to grow. So I will have spaces any from 6"-12". Not small holes to put pegs into. I don't like doing that. I find it easier to place a coral using glue, that way I can put it anyplace I like.

WiskeyThe sand is aragonite based.

Wow, that does look great. The rockwork is awesome - great dimensions. I love the Wavysea, they can really handle a lot of torque - I have a 6100 on mine.

Can't wait to see another fantastic creation, your last tank was such an inspiration.

Is kolorscape always aragonite based?

I'm trying to find out if I can get this down here in GA. I really like the looks of it and I bet it was incredibly cheap too!!! :D
