270 Gallon SPS tank for JBNY

Thanks Edward, It's not hard to do. Maybe when I have the tank all done I can post how you can do it on your own.

Sounds good! I just saw the website and they do have a black version. You know you could make the american version of the Elos Biotopus with your creative idea with a more realistic price tag? :) :)

awesome

So here is something cool.

I finished setting up the wall mounted LCD screen for my tank. It pulls information about my tank and the fish room. I have it change from tank to room information every 3 seconds.

When everything is up and running. I get this screen.

Room stats are on this screen.

When I am doing maintenance (e.g. a water change) I have the heaters and chiller as well as a bunch of pumps turned off. When I am doing that I see this screen. This is to remind me to turn everything back on when I am done. :)

If something goes wrong and any alarm on the tank trips I get this screen.

Pretty slick, eh?

I don't want to burden you with asking for more information now but I would be greatful if you could let me know whenever you get the chance to post information about your screen setup. The information screen is something I have always wanted from an aquarium controller and unfortunately Neptune systems currently has no intention of releasing such an option.

I'll make up a post that goes into what I am doing. But basically I have a script that pulls out the vital stats on the tank from my AC3. It uses the telnet interface to get the info. Then drops the info into an ini file that the LCD pulls from.

If you want to use the LCD you need to have a dedicated PC for the LCD to attach to, as it works with a USB connector.

The software to run the LCD is located here.

You can install it and it will run a virtual LCD that shows how the LCD will look.

Edward is this the display you want?

You can make it look like that is you want. The crystalfontz software let's you make it a little more user friendly though. As for a price, I think the one you are looking at could be bought for under $150.

Consider putting the "in" inline between your membrane and DI, this will give you a better idea of how your membrane and DI are performing.

Thanks for that tip.

Joe,
I'm concerned by the haphazard manner that you seem to be "throwing" this tank together with.

You might want to take some time and plan things out somewhat.

This tank has potential, but you really should think things through Nick

Nick, I took you advice, and made sure I spent some more time this weekend contemplating my tank setup. I was really at a breakthrough and felt that 3-4 more Yuenlings would to the trick. It did, and I had a breakthrough, unfortunately the next morning all I found all my fantastic ideas that I had sketched out on napkins had been written in some indecipherable code that I still have yet to break!

Joe,

Great setup so far. Would the lcd screen work with an AC jr as well? Thanks.

If the ACjr has telnet it should.

one of the best threads I've read on RC so far! amazing planning, pics and outcome! Just read all 22 pages of this thread while I should be working! Great job Joe!

Joe-

I really admire your patience. I'm sure this tank will be another work of art when it is online.

I can't recall if you covered this, but what are your plans for the top? Are you going open or will you make a custom canopy?

I'm going to make a canopy. I'd like to have the top open but too much light spills into the room for it to be practical in my situation.

I'd like to start dumping thing in the tank, but I made myself swear I would take it slow. :)

Sorry, it looks like the software only runs in windows based machines.

Thanks guys.

Update:

OK summer is over. Time to get back to work :) I got the front of the doors finished tonight.

So here is the stand minus the canopy, I'll start that this weekend.

I'm happy with it, I think it came out pretty nice. I have to re-align the rails on the left side of the drawers. The draw closed slighly askew, but you can't see it in the pictures. But other than that I like it.
