28g cube, when dosing, how long before checking 'new' levels?

I have a 28g BioCube. When manually dosing for alkalinity and/or calcium, how long after the dose is provide do you tend to wait before measuring again to see the 'new' post dose level?


I have a general circ pump, another circ pump for chaeto reactor, and in the display portion are a MP10 (usually set to random at 50%) and a small something or other circ pump moving water around behind the rocks.

Not sure of your turn over is but I would say within 30 minutes

Most have sufficient flow to turn the tank over a few times and hour...30 minutes should be fine

Thanks for the responses. That's what I've been doing. I have a Sicce 1.5 (357gph) for main circ and a second Sicce 1.5 diverting off to the chaeto reactor.

Keep tap of how much things change for each dose. Once you have this. I would not check again until the next time you need to dose.
I check level, dose, and not check again until it is time to dose again. Calcium you can dose quickly but Alkalinity adding will spike pH and if you can drip it in at night. Check it the next day if need. What's the hurry? You cannot, or should not change it quickly anyway.

I agree with not changing things rapidly and am not in a rush. I have just started dosing for Alk and am curious about the impact of what I'm adding. I was trying to see how much X amount of baking soda impacted the Alk level in my specific tank (using online calculators which seem pretty accurate). Additionally I have been careful to keep all PH impacts under .2 per dose. I'm building up a baseline for when I soon obtain and put in automatic dosers.


I was curious how long after adding the baking soda I had to wait before the full impact of the addition could be measured. More curiosity than anything else.

As soon as it distributed evenly. Sometime, if you have a sand bed, it take a little longer do defused down to all of it. Probably inside the rock and in the sand likely not account for much so I think you can ignore it.
There no waiting time for measurement needed. The impact of it, as in result in coral and clam growth, visible change in weeks.
