The Montgomery Reef Club will be hosting the 2nd Annual Coral Market on April 25th at the Drury Inn just off of I-85 in Montgomery, Al. from 12-4 PM CST. Fragging Demonstration at 2 PM ($10 fee). Door Prizes/Raffles at 3 PM. Free Admission.

Some of the sponsors so far are DT's Phyto, Sunlight Supply, SeaChem, Drs. Foster and Smith, ReefGeek, Reefscience.com, ORA, and CaribSea. More to come:).

We'll have light snacks and soft drinks available, also.

The Drury Inn offered excellent rates for those who traveled last year, but make arrangements as soon as possible to ensure you get a room. I don't think there is anything going on that weekend, but you never know...

Buy, sell, and trade corals and lightly used equipment. There will be a little bit of everything there from softies to SPS and everything in between.

If interested in setting up a table, contact me and I'll get you penciled in. There is a $10 table fee for those wishing to rent a table and sell/trade.

Yeah, I realized the timing with the Il swap after we decided on a date. I'm hoping maybe some from further south aren't planning on heading up to Il.

Montgomery to Nashville is actually one of the shortest swap distances for me. Nashville-4hrs, Knoxville-5 hrs, Memphis-5 hrs, Chattanooga-3.5 hrs. Not quite as close as trips within Tn to the different swaps (except Memphis to Knoxville or Chattanooga), but not too bad, either, if you have a coral jones.

Wow, Gary... you must drive around 95 on the interstates to make those times!

When I went to Florida for diving, we went down 65 into Montgomery and I thought it took closer to 6 hours to get down there. Maybe I'm just thinking wrong, tho.

Gary drives like a mad man!!!!!!!!! I can vow for that cause I've seen him drive before!!!!

Thanks Malissa:). I had to get the wife to make some changes to the poster, or I'd have posted over there already...

6 hours? There are a few reported time warps between here and there (been caught in a few myself from time to time;)), so that must be what happened:D:D:D. We'll blame it on that. I've made it in 3:30, but only once-back when we were moving (made like four trips to and fro in five days the week we moved down, along with several others in the weeks before and after...). No stops for that one. 4:00 is my normal time, usually averaging between 80-85 (sometimes running faster with a rabbit, but not too often), with two bio breaks and some libations. I think 6 will get you almost to Pensacola from Nashvegas. It was 7 hours to Gulport, Ms from Goodlettsville. Memphis is actually closer to 6, but I've made it in under 5:30 a number of times (family is there). I've got a bit of a lead foot, esp when someone else does, too;). Too many unpaid miles on the road...

Heh... Well, my poor truck gets HORRIBLE gas mileage so maybe it was the two stops for gas. Plus my wife was with me, so that's at least 3 potty breaks, etc. ;)

We ultimately went down to Ponce de Leon Florida. Its also known as simply "backwoods" Florida. I felt like I was lost in extreme East TN! :D And then, out of nowhere, Vortex Springs was in front of us... incredible.

I got certified in Pelham, but wish I'd gone to Vortex... It as the other trip for open water cert when i was in college. Blue Water in Pelham was my first open water. Not too bad, but you don't care much for quarries after seeing the real thing;). Haven't done much freshwater besides Martha's and Blue Water... Is Vortex fresh, brackish, or salt?

Vortex is 100% fresh. I think it produces about 28 million gallons a day. There's a cave that goes back into the head of the spring, too, if you're so inclined. ;)

Brandon

Oh yeah... and I'm heading to Martha's in a couple of weeks. :) My mom and my wife are both doing their check-out dives for open water. :)

New raffle information.

TritonsGarden is donating (2)-$50 gift certificates and
My Reef Creations is going to donate a gift certificate for the raffle. Jack and Kathy have a good selecton of corals (and will be at the swap).

Jack and Kathy as in teamreefers? Are they TritonsGarden?

That would make sense as to why their name now says "Moved On".

I would love to know how to get a hold of them... they always had a great corals and were super nice!

Brandon

I hope they didn't get moved on because of my post...

We've got a website set up for the club with links to the sponsors. www.montgomeryreefclub.com It's just gone up, so we are working out the bugs, etc.

A new update-ReefGeek donated a (2)-54W T5 Miro 4 retrofit for the raffle.

I borrowed a Wayne vehicle top pick up some reef crack once (pun intended-180 cracked loading it...), but have never ridden with him and Joy...
