2nd attempt at carpet, this time red!

As some of you may remember, about 6 weeks ago i got a blue gigantea and did a thread about him here http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1177875. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, he never made it and ended up melting

Well, today i got hooked up at Coral Reef Farm, BIGTIME! I had been whining to them for a small red carpet forever,lol. Last week they told me they thought one was coming in yesterday. Walked in today on my lunch hour and before i got within 20 feet of the tank could see him shining!

He's a red haddoni but is actually is more a fluorescent hot pink! His mouth was nice and tight and he was very sticky. Only about 6 inches across though but thats what i wanted.

Seemingly acclimated well and has already dug his foot in. He's getting pretty good flow which may have been the issue with the blue. The red isnt getting blasted but you can clearly see the flow easily blowing away some waste he was expelling.

Fingers crossed that this one is happy and healthy and makes it! Considering his price tag:eek1: , this will be my last attempt for a long time so i'm praying there are no problems with him!

I saw one like that at an LFS here in CA a few months ago, it literally was "hi-lighter pink" and was also around $350 or so. Good luck with it!

Thanks for the compliments guys! There's always gotta be at least one hater out there though,lol.

As far as price, i'd rather not say exact price but it was a little more than the one DrDNA saw.

I was VERY happy to see that all day and night, the anemone looked healthy and stayed fully inflated! No constant deflating and looking horrible like i went thru with the blue gigantea.

Its funny, when i heard the price, i figured she would flip her lid! I was going to get it no matter what it was so nice but figured i better call and get an idea how long i'd be sleeping on the couch.

I called her and told her the price and her response was "Oh my god! can we still get it, please?!?!". Luckily, i thought fast and said " OK, I guess so, i know how much you want it" lol.

Looks good. Slightly gaping but that's normal. Haddoni's are hardier than giganteas. Good luck its very pretty.

My sand bed is btween 3-4 inches in most spots. He is near the glass though in one of the more shallow spots. The tunze's push the sand a little around there. The carpet is probably in 2-2.5 inches of sand.

When i got home today, i immediately ran to the tank to check on him. The blue gigantea i got a while back never acclimated and would constantly deflate and look horrible. Anyways, the red looked kind of deflated. Luckily, when i got closer, i realized he had just buried his foot all the way to the bottom and he was just flush against the sand. I looked under the tank and you can see he has dug all the way to the glass on the bottom and attached.

I do have 2 false percs to host in it but so far they aren't going near it.

Last night, the carpet gave me a REAL scare! If anyone read my other thread with my blue gigantea that died, it would constantly deflate and gape badly after lights out. So far the new red one has looked awesone but last night about 30 minutes after the lights went out, i turned on the moonlights and the red was completely deflated and gaping I was about to freak out but about 30 minutes later it looked alot better and i could see that it had expelled a large piece of waste so HOPEFULLY that is all that was going on and there isn't anything wrong with it.

This morning it looked pretty good. Barely gaping at all and pretty much fully inflated. I'm praying when i get home that he is looking good and doing ok. I REALLY don't want to go thru the constant up and down health like i did with the blue gigantea. FINGERS CROSSED that this one acclimates and does good.

Everything else in the tank is thriving including a ton of sps, water parameters are perfect so i can't imagine why i shouldn't be able to keep a carpet healthy and happy.

Not sure if you have kept haddoniis before or not, but don't be surprised if once in a blue moon it pretty much disappears. There have been times where both of mine have completely sucked in and disappeared under the sand/rock interface. It seems to happen when something bothers it -- perhaps a small rock/frag will fall on it. It ends up coming back out within 30 minutes or so.

I know that in the wild they can be found in a flat open sand bed, but for some reason mine prefer to be at the interface. Not suggesting that you move yours, but if it starts to move around and isn't settling you may want to try moving it to an interface.

In this picture you get the idea of what I am talking about, both are where the rocks meet the sand.

BTW -- your's looks really good, I am jealous. Bet it is going look great in about a month.
