2Tall 185g - Build

Installed 2 250w PFO MH pendents (From Ryan) for temporary illumination while I DIY my LED's. I will probably incorporate one of these halides into my LED fixture, but might be able to get enough par from the LED's. I will be starting the LED's in another week or so and will post as I build.
I have a Yellow Wrasse and a Yellow Mimic Tang in QT for another 4 days that will be the first fish - these two have become best buddies and will love the BIG space! Going fish shopping again this weekend after those two get paroled from QT. Not sure on what I will get next, but decided no on the Banner fish in concern of reef safeness.
The Dragons Breath Macro has been going crazy since I put it in! Maybe the Mimic Tang will munch on it like my Lavender Tang does.
More to come.
:)

Bought a new Bubble Mangus MAC7 skimmer yesterday and it has already started skimming today! I am really liking this BM cone skimmer! The ETSS I didn't think would handle this tank and it was rather inconsistent.
Also yesterday, my first two fish were paroled from QT and placed in the tank, the first fish! A yellow Mimic Tang and a Yellow Coris Wrasse; they were best buddies in QT and have stuck together in their new home. Doing great so far.
I have another Mimic Tang (brownish purple body, yellow tail) in QT but he won't be ready for the big house for another few weeks.

It is really nice to finally see fish in this thing!

Looking nice Bugs! Keep the pictures rolling. Im debating wether i should get a cubed tank similar to this, although its a little taller than cubed or a longer tank for more room for the tangs to swim.

Thanks!
Cubed tanks are cool! A cubed tall column tanks would be really cool!
I'd love to have tangs, but none of my currently setup tanks are long enough. These Mimic tangs are perfect though for this tank and don't seem to require long swim runs.
Still not sure which fish will be next, doing a lot of reading and talking to my few trusted LFS people.

Thanks Pete!
I'm going to place that 12" Serpent Star I got from you in this tank next time I see him out on the glass; I see him maybe once a month in the morning...

The Dragons Breath macro I put in has grown really good and I have more taking over in my little BC8. The Mimic's love it, but cannot keep up. Will probably post some up if anyone is interested?

I wouldn't mind a piece as well.

Tank is looking awesome.

I got a lawnmower blenny I am gonna have to let go, I have one in my tank already got a second one in a package deal when I got some more fish recently. the one I have had in my tank for months is picking on him a little. rather not stress him out much if your interested in it.

Thanks Pete!

I would probably take some also. My tang would think he died and went to heaven. And it adds some nice color to the tank as well.

By the way, very nice tank!

Adam, Mark and Tammy, will PM you guys next week; got a lot going on over the next several days, but will hook you up with some of this macro.

I paroled the other Mimic Tang from QT Thursday and got two 4.5" Purple Tilefish from Reef Monsters yesterday. The Tilefish went into my 20l QT, but woke up at 3am this morning to a half filled QT and water all over the floor! I got the Tile's bagged and acclimated them directly into the 185g, they adjusted quite well and are swimming and eating. The Cleaner Shrimp also are happy to have more fish to clean. Everyone is getting along great so far.

The 20L QT had a seam blow.... the tank is only 6 months old and was bought at Petco's dollar a gallon sale; it was also the last ting I bought at Petco as I refuse to support an company that kills thousands of fish and other animals AND is directly responsible for more people leaving this hobby more than anything else!!
I painted the tank, so I doubt I will get a refund - I don't want to go in there again anyway! JUST SAY NO TO PETCO!

Anyway, all 5 fish are doing great and really seem to love the open space. I've been dosing a cup of Reefstew every week and have an explosion of pods right now which the fish are loving. A bit of diatom is growing along with the green algae. A few weeks ago, I placed a 3" piece of clean LR up on the tallest column to help seeding, I also placed 3 more smaller LR pieces in the sump to help seed the LR in there. I got the LR from a friends tank that is very clean and visibly pest free. No more outside LR, will now wait for the Coraline.

The Tilefish are absolutely stunning, the pics just don't show their beauty!

Sorry to hear about the QT tank, that sucks... Hope my 40gal breeder sump doesn't bust a seam. I bought two during the 1 a gal sale as well.

I got a new Iwaki WD40 to replace the WMD20 on the closed loop and re-plumbed the CL. I was going to use the Snapper for the CL, but still have it running as the main pump. May still use the Dart, but since I added the new Iwaki with twice the flow, I think I am good on flow for now with about 14 X turn over per hour total. The 1200gph MD40 really brought the CL alive!

I also hooked up the Spectra Pure Ultra Precise level controller for my ATO which is WAY better than the JBJ ATO I was using! The fish are doing great, no more additions for the next 30+ days.

Next up this weekend is installing a RKE controller (thanks DJ) on the 185g and a RKL on the 55g, both with Net controllers. BUT, Digital Aquatics forum and site had been down all week, so I lack major support in learning the ins and outs of these system. Hopefully they will be back up soon! They did email the software and some manuals which will be enough to get me going.

Their myReef software runs only on PC and I was wanting to use my Mac.... So, I downloaded a program (Virtualbox) that allowed me to have dual OS on my Mac. I have spent hours tonight getting this to work and it does work, but does not seem efficiency enough for the DA software. Oh well, looks like I will be hooking up an old PC in the fish/bedroom this weekend also. If I have any energy left, will also install the BRS dual reactor.

The LED build should start in 2 -4 weeks and will do a full build in this thread as I go. Once the lighting is done, it will be time to skin the stand in oak, I think.

Thanks for following along and stay tuned for more!

i see dynomat on the base of your cabinet bugs, very nice. you do audio work for cars too? brings back the good ol days when i tried a diy for my trunk which didn't really work, but looked cool though. Tank is coming along really nice! very nice choices in fish.

Thanks!
I used Dynomat on the floor and cargo area when I installed new carpet in my 82 vette and it works good for road and side pipes noise and audio system bass. I think for this stuff to work as intended, you have to lay down a lot of it.

I used Dynomat under the pump area only, probably helps with some of the vibration. I'm going to used some kind of sound board inside the stand when I enclose it. Right now I am using 1" foam insulation board that is Velcroed inplace and it is rather quiet.
This tank sits 3' from my bed, so it has to be as quiet as possible.
